It depends on what option Marquez chooses: The question is whether that be the magic bottle or the heredia roids....:think
arguello by ud in a brilliant display of pure technique from both fighters, without the advantages of superior athleticism which sometimes is mistaken for good boxing technique.
Arguello just may be the best ever at 130 lbs and that includes Mayweather Jr. who was absolutely brilliant. If any fighter 135 lbs and below could have knocked out Juan Manuel Marquez it would have been Arguello. Arguello with his reach worked the jab brilliantly, I like Arguello at 130 lbs but favor Marquez at his best weight of 126 lbs.
If it was scheduled for 15, I pick Arguello by knockout. As good as Marquez is, he can get tagged (As in the Diaz fight), and he can be dropped (Pacquiao, Mayweather.) If he gets tagged like that by Alexis, he is going to hear the referee count to 10. If it is scheduled for 12, I still see Alexis getting the better of it and putting quite a bit of hurt on Juan Manuel.
Being on PEDs, anything is possible so JMM has a chance. You get power that was never there but you can obtain them through careful customized PEDs at age 38+.
Damn, that is a good fight. Alexis was just so dang accurate and powerful, tall frame. I don't think Marquez could out counter him at this weight. I'd have to favor Alexis at this weight.
Marquez is quicker and faster, so he'd be able to counter Arguello. Arguello of course would be the aggressor so that partly plays into Marquez' hands. The difficulty in facing Arguello is his variation in punching power. He was a sly one in the mental side of the game. Arguello had a way of making you think he was punched out and power zapped. Then all of a sudden he'd drop a pulverizing shot down the pike. Its the combination of Arguello's height, reach, patience, skill, and power that makes him such a hard beat. Getting inside Arguello's reach to counter with combinations is'nt such an easy thing to do against him as he can turn out the lights with a single shot.
