Juan Manuel Marquez Vs. Canelo Alvarez — Who's The Better Boxer...???

JMM saw Canelo winning.

 

Yeah that definition is technically correct but on boxing forums specifically (and I think more broadly in sports parlance) the word talent is considered to have the understood qualifier "natural" in front of it, to distinguish it from learned/acquired/drilled/honed/perfected applied craft (ie skill).

I think Drugnelo is better. He's much more consistent and in the last fight he stood in the pocket most of the fight vs the weights boogeyman. I think he lost personally, but robbery aside it was a good showing from Drugnelo.

JMM is a great boxer in his own right, but the man underachieves, makes questionable fight/career choices and often fights down to his opponents level.

Did you pick this comparo because they're both drug cheats?

 

Canelo is a good fighter but I think Marquez is a little bit better.

 

Canelo has fought much better competition than Marquez ever did. Much much much better

Theyre both supberb counter punchers, but I don't see much that separates them in the skills department. Skills is a combination of things, not just offense. Canelo has better defense, more speed and a better chin. Those are all skills that are acquired through years and years of prize fighting, so I'd favor Canelo as the better all around fighter

 

A draw

 

I saw him say he had it a draw but agreed that a win for Canelo would be fair.

 

Yes hes faster. But I consider Marquez to be a far more rugged fighter than Canelo. He hits way harder p4p. Has the better chin. Is not prone to gas like Canelo was. And it was hard to grind him down through attrition.

Marquez is a supremely skilled counter puncher. But skill wise hes limited. In the sense that he is not comfortable or is inept at taking the lead.
