My christmas poll. As you know we got denied the opportunity to watch this fight earlier this year. I don't believe it will happen anytime soon either. Morales still turned in an impressive performance against Maidiana on short notice. But as it is my vote goes to Marquez because he beat Barrera who won against Morales twice. But on the other hand Morales left no doubts that he beat Pacquiao in their first match. So who takes it? BTW Merry Christmas! I'm out.

I think Morales would've edged Marquez. They're good friends, btw.

I think Marquez wins this close but clear as hes just too versatile and accurate for Morales.

That said Morales will win this poll by a 65 - 35% type of swing and the 35% is only because in recent times Marquez is being understood better.

Right now Marquez takes it. Prime for Prime, I'd favor him as well, but you can never count Morales out with his own blend of aggression and skills.

Also, in case you're interested, here's a translated breakdown of how Marquez strategically would have fought Erik Morales.

for me, morales is a great fade.

he really does not have much left and barely survived his last fight against a very green opponent who took the fight on a couple weeks notice.

im hoping he goes against khan next and i can get ak at -250 or 300.

At this point marquez dominates morales, however prime for prime it's a very close fight

I'm torn, Can't decide & not on the winner...
(But do I want to see these 2 warriors destroy each other @ this stage)

I'll pass still plenty of fish for them to fry w/o having to match them.
There is Bradley & the rest of the 140's crop ect...

Right now? Marquez takes it by a wiiiiiide margin. I wouldn't be surprised if Marquez were to stop him quite honestly.

Prime for prime? I still think Marquez takes it by a comfortable 8 rounds to 4 margin on the scorecards. Always felt Marquez was a bad style matchup for Morales.

Primetime I think Erik may edge it.He could punch from great angles with marvellous accuracy and move away rapido. He may go toe 2 toe because of the Mexican thing though and that would actually suit Marquez for me.
Now I think Juan would win,but I hate choosing between fighters I admire greatly.Barrera is my favourite of the three, but Juan is one of my three currently active favourites,They have all given me some of my finest boxing memories.

Surprised so many people think Morales could beat JMM. Just goes to show how highly regarded he is. Stylistically he'd struggle with JMM for me, but he'd be competative for a few rounds at least.

JMM UD's any version of Morales and am Confident he TKO's the current one. There is a reason Morales ducked him....

Morales was worried about losing to Marquez yet it was Marquez who pulled out of their agreed upon fight last year

Not to say JMM wouldn't be able to beat Morales but if Norwood and John could make it close (rewatched and rescored both fights recetly I had JMM winning both this time) i'm sure a prime Morales would atleast make it close if not win.

:lol: JMM had bigger fish to fry at the time when a PAC fight was looming around the corner and it worked out. Currently PAC>Morales by a long shot.

All the praise for Morales being a bad ass, but Marquez would have UD any version of him and the John and Norwood comments are funny, ad Morales doesn't fight like any of them and Marquez would feed off his agression and when he wants to box, he would just be outboxed... sorry to say...

JMM is the best out of the Fab Four.

    You're right on point Doc.
The only advantage Morales has over Marquez is reach. Everything else favors Marquez.
Both are highly skilled, but Marquez' punch repertoire and versatility well surpasses Morales'.

Add to it quickness, speed, and stamina are clearly on Marquez' side, and it spells a clear and comfortable decision in favor of Marquez.

I think the fight plays out close through 6 rounds, but then Marquez stamina and adaptability take over the second half of the fight.

LOL, 90% of this forum was criticizing Marquez citing he would be fighting a shot Morales when it looked like Marquez-Morales would happen last year. Alot of those same people are now calling Marquez' pull out of the fight a duck.

If I remember correctly. Marquez' contract with GBP was about to expire, and as a prerequisite for the Morales fight to go through, GBP wanted additional options on Marquez' future fights.
Marquez did'nt take that bait because he was eyeing the scenario to best land him the 3rd Pacquiao fight.

No doubt about it that Marquez made the right decision. Had he fought Morales, with GBP holding options on Marquez, the 3rd Pacquiao fight would have never happened and we would have never witnessed Marquez once again imposing his style and class upon a presumed much improved Pacquiao.:D:hat
