It's funny you say he had bigger fish to fry when Morales was in his Prime JMM was a virtual unknown outside of the boxing hardcore and was looked at as being a little too cautious and technical (this is a reason many think he lost the John fight) so it was high risk low reward fight for Morales to take at that time (2000-2003) especially when there were several other more lucrative options out there and don't forget Morales was promoted by Bob Arum who doesn't like to make the high risk low reward type fights (see his critical comments about Martinez facing Dzinziruk) Yes because Morales can't box as well as Norwood or John? fact is throughout his career Morales made a lot of fights tougher then they needed to be by wanting to slug it out and as a result his technical and boxing skills were overlooked and are still overlooked. H2H all being in their hypothetical primes I feel this is how their fights would play out; Morales vs Barrera - Close fight either way split (as proven by their trilogy which Barrera won) Morales vs Marquez - - Similar to the Barrera Matchup could go either way. Morales vs Pacquiao - Prime for prime no doubt Morales beats Pacquiao 4 times out of 5 Marquez vs Pacquiao - Marquez woud always win a close fight against Pacquiao IMO Marquez vs Barrera - I honestly feel Barrera could win this, as proven by their first encounter as a badly faded Barrera managed to make the fight competetive throughout but in saying that i'd still give the edge to Marquez. Barrera vs Pacquiao - Pacquiao wins this everytime his style is all wrong for Barrera.
For me marquez has 3 options, fight pac again, fight morales at 140 or fight another champ at. 140. Regardless, i want to see him vs morales this year.
Prime for Prime, if they fought 10 times, i honestly think they would both end up with 5 wins each...This is really a definition of a 50/50 fight here. The certain winner in all this would be us the fans, cus this would be an all out war from start to finish, as well as a GREAT display of technical skills. :good :happy
I always felt morales would win this fight h2h in their primes. Same with barrera, but maybe both fights wouyld be close, marquez is too good to be counted out.
As much as I love to see them fight...The chance for these two greats to fight in their Primes are LONG GONE. So my interest is not as strong as it used to be.
It still has value because it would conclude the mini fab 4 of this era, its the only fight missing. Morales is a 140 belt holder, even if that isnt a fair title it still makes sense for marquez if he doesnt fight pac or retires. Beside it being way overdue people would still love to see them fight I think, no doubt it will be a fun fight.
