Juan Manuel Marquez is considered by many to be an all time great featherweight with outstanding technique. He's also arguably never legitimately lost a fight, whilst taking on the likes of Marco Antonio Barrera and Manny Pacquiao amongst many other good fighters.

So how would he do against fellow featherweight Johnny Famechon?

I'll be interested to hear some opinions on this one, ESPECIALLY in light of Marquez's struggle with Chris John.

    Fire away :good

As long as he used his legs and didn't give Marquez much to counter, Famechon should win comfortably.

bad matchup for a counterpuncher is Famechon.

Very true, which is why I`d have picked him and Marcel to defeat someone like Sanchez handily.

Did he really struggle with John or was he just flat out screwed?

No ****in way Marquez is an ATG at Featherweight.

Who's his best win there? Freddie Norwood, Robbie Peden, Derrick Gainer? Let's remember that, subjectivity aside, he draw the first fight againt Pacquiao.

Marquez could do interesting things at 130, though. But I think he won't. He will follow Pacquiao until 135 and fight him there, leaving many holes at 130 to be considered an ATG. At 126 he's definitely not an ATG.

So he's that much less skilled at 126 than he was at 130? He has great skills, that is what this thread pertains to.

What?the best win on Marquez's record is a close decision win over a Barrera who had been in 1000 wars. And Barrera still decked his ass.

the best wins on famechon's resume are against a past it harada and many think he lost the first fight. The barrera that fought marquez was still a p4p fighter.

Famechon hasnt even been inducted into the hall of fame yet. He was a good fighter, but honestly when people try and dismiss jmm for greatness and say he underachieved, well can anyone tell me what famechon really did besides his wins over a faded harada and jose legra.

JMM holds wins over barrera, gainer, medina, peden and he arguably beat pac both times and was totally shafted against chris john. There is no doubt his resume is better.

Why is there no doubt? If there was an alphabet soup in Johnny's day and you could go to boxrec and check who held titles I bet you'd think differently.

Johnny Famechon holds wins over Harada, Legra, Johnson, Herrera, Roque, Valdez, Taylor and Jimenez. All these guys would hold a strap at some point if there were ABC titles floating around as there are today.

Famechon also held Vicente Saldivar to a close loss. Which to me is an impressive feat in and of itself. As it should be to you, since you've been harping on recently about what a great fighter Vicente was and how he belongs way up in the p4p all time rankings.

He has great skills, yes. I am just saying he's not an All Time Great Featherweight.

He has been unlucky all up but I don't think he's been as hard done by as some others think.

I had him losing the first fight to Pac and had the second one a draw.

If I take two points from him in the John fight as the referee instructs for low blows, that bout becomes a draw for me (I didn't take two points away btw, those low blow calls were rubbish).

The Barrera fight was quite close and I think a draw is arguable, but I had Maquez taking it by a point.

I haven't seen the Norwood fight so I can't say on that one.

I had Pacquiao winning the first two rounds clearly when they first fought and after that I'm hard pushed to give Pac more than two rounds. Marquez IMO won his rounds just as clearly and convincingly as Whitaker did against Chavez. Effective clean punching, Marquez by a country mile.

I had both fights 8 rounds to 4 for JMM.
