I think both men are amazing technitions...though yes jmm might not take cottos punch as well as cotto would take his....p4p I'd give jmm the edge but as it stands now in with their current physical statures....cotto starches your boy.
Yeah as of right now Cotto has to be the pick. We will have to see what JMM looks like at 147, if he surprises us and looks good there then maybe he could as I believe Cotto is on the downslide.
Cotto would win. Marquez is a vastly superior boxer to Cotto, but he couldn't beat Cotto. For two main reasons I give Pacquiao a better chance of beating Cotto than JMM. 1 - The key to Pac beating Cotto will be his mobility/footwork/movement/foot speed. Marquez does not have this ability to the same degree. JMM relies on other strengths, but although those strengths allowed him to secure a fantastic win over Juan Diaz, Cotto is a lot bigger, stronger and smarter than Diaz. Marquez couldn't turn the tide and bludgeon Cotto the way he did to Diaz. 2 - Above 135, I don't believe Marquez will hold the weight as well as Pacquiao does. Pacquiao has a weird body frame which seems to allow him to pile on and burn off muscle without losing much of his sharpness. This doesn't make him any better or any worse than Marquez, it's just a different body type. For instance, Paul Williams also has this weight yo-yo'ing ability whereas Marvin Hagler didn't have it, but obviously Hagler was a much better boxer. For me, JMM was outmuscled against Diaz early on in a way that no-one could've managed against him at 130 (Pacquiao didn't outstrength him in either fight), and that suggests to me that JMM would be well outmuscled by a far bigger man like Cotto and (as point 1 proposes) he wouldn't have the mobility to offset this. Although JMM definitely has the equalizer in terms of punch power, so I would definitely not write him off completely v Cotto. I'm just saying that I would strongly fancy Cotto to win.
I agree with everything except for JMM necessarily having the equalizer in terms of punch power. It wasn't utterly devastating at 126lb, and hitting hard at 135lb is completely different to being a hard hitter at 147lb. Great post though. :good
Not at all. He admits he drew the first fight and narrowly lost in their rematch, a decision which could have gone either way. I hope they get it on again.
Yeah so do I. I'd prefer Pac to fight Marquez next after Cotto and then the finale against Mayweather. Of course if Marquez loses we're not going to see Pac-Marquez 3. (Unless Pac loses to Cotto)
I think both Pacquiao and Marquez will lose their next fights. Of course, with my track record, expect victories from both.
Cotto by mid round stoppage. If Diaz could rock JMM with a left hook at 35 then JMM stands no chance on taking Cotto's left hook.
I would highly doubt he would fight Cotto the way he fought Diaz. Also, Cotto was rocked by light hitting Corley who weighed 140 pounds fight night. How much would JMM weigh come fight night?
