The circumstances were different. Cotto was clearly drained as a Light Welterweight, this has been evidenced by his punch resistance improving as a result of moving up to the 147lb division.

He never admitted to anything. :deal
He always talked about being the victor in those fights and wanting the official decision.

And why the hell do you bring that up in this thread?
    Talk about obsession. :rofl:rofl:rofl

The difference is Cotto was weight drained at 140. At 147, he hasn't been hurt nearly as badly against much bigger punchers than Corley and Marquez both.

Could Marquez hurt the Cotto who fought Corley? Absolutely. Could he hurt a healthy Cotto at 147? I doubt it.

By the way, I'd go as far as saying Corley's pop is at least comparable to Marquez's considering the difference in size. Corley was also able to rock Mayweather, something I don't envision Marquez doing. Though I hope I'm wrong with that last statement. :yep

Marquez KO people who have never been KO before. That says a lot about his punching power.

I don't buy this weight drained thing. Weight drained makes you sluggish, slower, and and look lethargic. Look at ODLH vs Pac, and RJJ vs Tarver.

Besides, when Cotto fought Corley, Cotto weighed 157 pounds on fight night, Corley weighed exactly 140 pounds. Weighing 157 hardly means drained.

    Seeing is believing.

Cotto was seriously buzzed by Torres and Corley, yet he stands up to Mosley's best shots? There's clearly been an improvement in his punch resistance in my view.

Marquez has Ko'ed Lightweights, he has not proved his punching power up at 147lb, which is two divisions higher than where he's currently operating.

Whole different ball game. I'm not saying he cannot carry the power, I'm saying I'd have to see it to believe it.

Don't know who would win a head to head, But I know JMM has the punch it takes.
    (The uppercut)

Let's see what happens in the PBF first.

Cotto needed three attempts to make 140 and ended up looking like this...

He looks all jacked up.

But he was able to gain 17 pounds back. Unlike Oscar and RJJ wo didn't gain much back.

But at any rate, I think JMM can hurt Cotto, mainly because Cotto's chin is average to below average.

He reminded me of Christian Bale in The Machinist...

Oscar attempted to rehydrade after weighing in on fight night. He came in the ring chewing ice and weighed more than HBO's tale of the tape showed.

Regardless, some fighters perform different when being drained. Jhonny Gonzalez was clearly drained against Gerry Penalosa, but fought well up until the point where he got caught with a well placed body shot.

    Agree to disagree.

I "think" he would be. It all depends on how he looks in there at 144 or 143 when he fights Floyd. I'm not sold he has the frame to move up in weight ala PAC although there is no question the man is more technically sound and skilled than Cotto. The weight could just be too much.

    uliuli uliuli....

dont get carried away and be delusional with pac moving around weights and you think your boy can do the same thing. remember, pac was like a skeletor when he fought your boy and said win or lose he'll go up. having said that,
dont make pac as your gauge that if pac can succeed at higher weight, then same thing as your boy. the only thing why jmm is moving up is because he is trying his luck and maybe get the "W" to get another rematch with pac.
pac and jmm above 140 are both midgets that have no business whatsoever.
