When he was young he won a belt at that weight of 130,id go for Marquez at 130 because De La Hoya was a bit too green at the time he fought there and he was down a few times in several of his fights. At 135 its a 50/50 matchup but this time id give De La Hoya the advantage. Marquez on points at 130 and De La Hoya on points at 135
I think Marquez takes a green 130lb Oscar to school and knocks him out. It's never a good idea to throw an inexperienced young fighter - even if he has potential for greatness - in with such a solid vet in his prime.
Green oscar? ..WTF Isn't there an implication that both fighters are at least close to their best, or did I miss the part where it says an experienced JMM vs a green oscar!
De La Hoya was green at 130 and to a lesser extent at 135.He had been knocked down a few times at 130 and was too left hook happy at both weights, he hadnt yet started using his right hand more. He just wasnt at his prime at the lighter weights imo. He started hiting his prime when he moved to 140 and 147 which were the more natural weights for him to fight at
He might have had a chance w/ DLh at 130, since back then DLH was just starting as a pro. But at 135, I think DLH KO's him.
I wouldn't pick Oscar to beat Pacquaio at 130, or Arguello. But he ****ing destroys Marquez, Marquez was floored by Manny at this weight. Marquez's defence isn't watertight, he'll get hit often and be out of there in 6. At lightweight even sooner. EDIT: Make it 10.
:good JMM was very hard to beat from 122-130. His losses up to that point to Norwood, John, and Pacquiao were all controversial. Oscar was a KO artist, fast, and young. Also very tall for 130. I think he did have the style to beat JMM and the speed and power, similar to a Floyd at 130, but Oscar still had more pop and early round ko's. He drops JMM no doubt, but JMM at 122-130 would be very hard to beat even for Oscar. Still too green at 130. Only fighters I feel could really beat a 130 JMM would be Floyd and Arguello. 135 on up it's a different story.
