By stoppage. The Pride of Youngstown, Ohio...... Ray " This content is protected " Mancini!!!!!!!!!!!!
Marquez is definitely the greater fighter, career-wise, but at lightweight? It's not so clear cut. Marquez fought pressure fighters in the mold of a Mancini in Juan Diaz and Michael Katsidis and ultimately picked them apart after challenging early rounds against both of them. I'd rate Mancini above Katsidis (clearly) and Diaz and he was a big lightweight too, whereas Marquez was not particularly big at the weight. I'm going to go with Marquez on points but it would be a tough, tough fight for both men and this is a guaranteed war!
Marquez would have to go to hell and perhaps climb off the canvas but he’d edge out Mancini on points.
Everybody loves Raymond, but I went with Marquez by stoppage. @Jel touched on lots of style Marquez faced which were similar to Mancini, but he didn't mention the Marquez-esque fighters who Mancini fought. I'm thinking of Arguello, obviously. There aren't all too many similarities between Marquez and Arguello, aside from both having underrated hand speed and being lethal, razor sharp counter-punchers who seemingly couldn't miss when they got in their groove. Obviously Arguello was taller, longer, much more explosive and powerful, but he didn't throw as many punches as Marquez did and he didn't put combinations together as well IMO. I tend to think that Mancini's aggression and style makes Marquez up his workrate and string combo after combo on him, which takes it's toll later on. Walking endlessly onto double hooks, uppercuts and being fed straight rights will take its toll if you're interested in taking five to land one. Both men had quick hands, decent pop, high workrates and great styles that would gel into a great fight IMO. I like Marquez's positioning here, that's the biggest difference IMO. He'll eventually start to take over as he gets off first and shuts Mancini down more and more. Ray still gives it his all but by 10/11 would get pulled out or stopped on his feet IMO.
I'm really torn here, as has been pointed out Marquez is a skillful fighter, better than Mancini. But can Marquez keep Ray off him for 15 rounds and inflict enough punishment to stop him? 50/50
