Yeah, Marquez is a great counterpuncher and a wonderfully precise puncher and technician, but it was guys who were mobile and had good defense that gave Arguello the biggest obstacles style wise, because Arguello had a hard time keeping up with their footwork.

For all his skills, Marquez is not a tremendously mobile guy. I think there's a good chance that Marquez would get drawn into exchanging, which is a dangerous game with a guy who both has single punch KO power and great combination punching like Arguello.

Especially if it's over a 15 round fight, Arguello should be a big favorite.

I am not as sure as others on this thread of Arguello's boxing ability. He is my favourite puncher of all-time; power, technique and variety. But there is not really one fight of his which I have seen (admittedly I haven't seen all of his title fights) where I think he looks like a great all-round boxer. I genuinely can see Marquez edging rounds in an engaging contest before the inevitable knockout.

with all due respect I count it as 13-2 Arguello from what the posters have said. I am in that corner also so 14-2. I also like JMM, but el Flaco is a differnet kind of fish, others have pretty well covered why Arguello should/would win.

I think this could end early as JMM can be a slow starter also.

I can't see Marquez being able to outbox Arguello. In fact, I think almost certainly it's Arguello that outboxes him, if nothing else.

Have you seen the first fight with Escalera? It's on Youtube if you haven't.

so you do not think JMM would not kiss the canvass...he may win 8-7 but he would be KD two times

I own it. It does not change my opinion. In fact, it forms my opinion to an extent.

Marquez gets dropped 3 times and Arguello doesn't let him off the hook and stops him late. (at 130, that is)

Yey I agree that Arguello hit harder than Pac but he wouldnt have gotten to Marquez as often as Pac.

I agree with Jack although I rate Arguello higher than Marquez stylisticallly i can see Marquez giving him trouble at JL i think he has at least a 50/50 chance of pulling this out. Marquez seemed to slow down a little when he moved up at LW or JW id take Arguello.

But Arguello wasnt a fast starter either he would be patient and get you later. Although he does have a couple early kos chances are hed get you Mid or late rounds.

Arguello would put JMM down and keep him down, and bust him up along the way.
AA would beat the **** that JMM had just drunk out of him.
