Beristain changed the mold back though as everyone wanted to fight face first like Chavez in the 80's and 90's.

The point was he was more of a mix it up brawler than a classy boxer, tricky dick, and a lot of the fighters were emulating his fighting style. :tired

Yeah, I made all the highlight vids on that channel. Working on a few right now: Tyson combos, Ruddock smash, left hooks of Tua, Leonard, DLH, Tito.

Chavez was a better defensive fighter than Marquez.

I was going to say....Chavez was a far, far greater defensive fighter than Marquez has ever been.

The one thing I love about JMM, every shot is thrown with perfect form and optimal power. He ain't using throwing crappy shots to set up bigger ones, like Galaxy neglects the jab for the big left, JMM is making sure every punch is perfect and leads on to the next.

Who said anything about defense, the point was about fighting style Chavez was always full steam ahead.

Sorry didnt mean to create an uproar, I was a big fan of Chavez, that is until he lost to Randall, and acted like a sore loser.

As far as combination punching goes though, Marquez didn't really improve on anything Chavez had already done.

I wouldn't say that Mexican fighters "imitated" Chavez as much as they simply didn't have the skill and talent of Chavez nor the Marquez brother and Ricardo Lopez, and instead were forced to close the gap in talent with sheer determination and pressure. For example Antonio Margarito was never going to be a pin-point accurate puncher with the defensive instincts to get out of the way of unnecessary punishment.

Miguel Angel Gonzalez, Alejandro Gonzalez, and even Barrera to an extent, all emulated Chavez quite a bit.
I think Ricardo Lopez was doing something completely different stylewise.

Thankfully, Mexican boxing did not start with Chavez.
