Hard-hitting, highly scientific (Argentine science) Southpaw Godhead of the 1990's. Where does his legacy settle? Greatest Super-Light? Second greatest? That decision may lie with historians a century hence but for now let us appreciate.
My feeling for him was the same as the featherweight Moremero Paez of the 80's.. i loved to watch him in the hopes of him getting knocked out... hope he is healthy and wealthy at his age today
Seriously though a very solid fighter who could beat almost any 140lber not in form at his best. Probably not in the top ten of 140lbers, but rightly an honourable mention.
He was very good. People often overlook that while he certainly did lose to Randall he did drop Randall so he could punch pretty good. With Eder Gonzalez he admits it was wrong but he isn't the one who did that. Rematched him and knocked him out. Also worth noting he put Brazier down something alot of fighters couldn't do. Also has some very good wins.
Tough fighter. Easy to underrate. I watched the 2nd fight between him and Randall last night. Dude definitely played it off for the title.
I just watched Coggi vs Gonzalez 2 for the first time, this was actually pretty entertaining fight. And it's never talked about as one of the best short fights, Coggi gets dropped heavily in the 1st, gets rocked again in the 2nd. Gets a nasty cut in the 3rd which possibly could lose him the fight, and then comesback and stops Gonzalez with 2 knockdowns, very entertaining fight worth watching.
Yes, it was truly a memorable performance by Juan. My bad for not realizing you were pulling my chain sooner.
