Juanma actually showed true KO power.

Everyone thinks Pavlik is such a monster puncher, when he's a systematic heavy handed puncher that wears the opponents down. Several years back, they felt Cotto a monster puncher but have soon realised that he's a heavy handed guy with good power that beats his opponents down in precision form.

Rarely are there true 1 punch hitters in boxing, David Haye at 200 was definitely one of these. You don't have to totally starch a guy with 1 shot to be considered a 1 punch KO artist, but merely have the type of shot that sets up the end of a fight.

Juanma didn't just a starch an average chinned fighter, he cracked the jaw of a guy with proven good punch resistence and the favourite going into the fight. I thought that Juanma would TKO Ponce on accumulation, somewhere mid rounds, but didn't expect that kind of result.

It just showed that he's definitely in that real category of true KO punchers and there isn't anybody at 122 who can last that long with him as none of those guys have good defence in that division, then guys like Caballero who run have shaky jaws. Vasquez and Marquez are probably spent and are too easy to tag.

Young at 25 also. Hope he gets hype and the right fights.

The only thing that bothered me was Ponce being able to time shots on him prior to the KO, probably could still use some defensive work.

Oh what bull****. Vazquez and Marquez are proven supreme punchers themselves, much more proven than JuanMa, and they were able to withstand 25 brutal rounds against each other which included 12 full rounds the last time out. And you can't say they're spent until after I see clear evidence of it. Neither have fought since their trilogy so there is no evidence of that to speak of so until then I think you should stop with the ''they're spent'' talk.

Here what goes again? I'm not overhyping the kid, but who was not impressed? He displayed actual 1 punch KO power, the topic of the thread, in comparison to most KO artists being types that break and opponent down with extended work, a rarity.

****, you're an imbecile, you can add NOTHING to a boxing conversation.

I don't think either hit as hard as Lopez, their lack of defence even if they aren't spent leave them vulnerable to certain types of fighters as well.

Marquez may not be spent, but Vasquez, who won the trilogy but took the much larger overall beating has to be on his last legs, considering he's taken punishment his entire career.

Marquez matches up much better with Lopez stylistically as well, if he's not spent then I'd favour him. I wouldn't favour Vasquez though even if he's still there.

I was impressed with the kid. It's funny how before the fight people were talking like Ponce was the only one capable of a KO in this fight, when Lopez's record suggests he's a puncher

I had complete faith Lopez would beat PDL, it's been on the cards for a while, but I didn't expect that. PDL has a good chin, the amount of punches he takes is insane at times. I just assumed he'd go the distance and be comprehensively outboxed

kid defenitely has impressed me a lot more than say, Gamboa did on his HBO debut. Of course they are at different satges of their careers, still they are about the same age and Gamboa has that amatuer background. Based on this Juanma is probably the real prospect while Gamboa is more smoke and mirrors.

I was extremely impressed with Lopez. I thought he would win but never expected it to be in such dominant fashion (especially seeming PDL has a good chin). He showed great speed, timing, accuracy and serious power, If managed correctly he could be the next PR superstar.

I'll officially over hype this guy I don't care ... i've been a fan since I watched him on the spanish channel ... some boxeo thing ... but yeah I know he has the goods and this isn't it.

He hasn't even filled out yet ... he's going to be a star ... if my boys dad who knows alot more than me about boxing compares him to Wilfredo Gomez - then dammit he's something to look forward to.

He's already a world champion and he started fighting in 05' ... he's only got 22 fights and 20 KO's on his resume.

Ponce De Leon never been down ever and never been knocked out amateur or pro -- add to that De Leon has a very good KO ratio --

Of all the guys who fought last night, I came away most impressed by JuanMa. It was his first REALLY big step up fight, and Ponce had shown a good chin, even with a shaky defense up until this point. I thought Ponce would really test JuanMa with his output and hard hitting shots, but JuanMa took all of a couple minutes to completely figure him out and explode... very very impressive. Speed, power, and charisma... he can be a superstar in the making.

Also, I'm in the Vasquez/Marquez being shopworn very soon, if not already. If history has shown us anything is that multi-fight wars like that usually leave one or both fighters punchy. Vasquez has been in so many wars, I can't see him lasting as a top guy much longer.
