This cat is in the best promotional company in boxing, just iced a "dangerous" fighter who in all honesty has shown that he had a great chin. And after the fight he was hype and called out Vazquez lol...This guy is 24 years old and is married to an older puerto rican broad, has like 5 kids and is nothing but BUSINESS lmao
TopRank does make sure you get exposure and get a chance to achieve something in the sport. Take a look at Tye Fields ... Kelly Pavlik ... Floyd Mayweather ... Miguel Cotto ... Jose Luis Castillo ... Erik Morales ... Jose Armando Santa Cruz ... he was on his way ... now that he left TopRank for GBP ... he hasn't been seen on TV since. David Diaz will be on his second PPV card ...
It was scored an official knockdown. Though it was the result of a body shot, which had Ponce off balance and forced him to use his glove to steady himself. Either way, Ponce had never been hurt like that before. Which was some shocking ****. Props to JuanMa. I picked De Leon to knock him out based on him being relatively green and struggling with the aggression of that fighter he fought on the undercard of Morales-Diaz.
:verysad I don't agree with any of this here. 1st off how can you think Vazquez took more punishment? Most would say it was the other way around as Marquez was the one dropped in every single one of their fights and looked more spent by the end of their last two fights. So I don't understand your reasoning there. 2nd, you thinking that JuanMa hits harder than both after KOing only a single contender in his career is simply your own opinion. Many still consider Marquez p4p the hardest puncher in the game and he's proven it against a much beter resume of fighters than Lopez and same thing with Vazquez. Talk about overhyping a guy after one great win, in all likelihood both Izzy and Rafa would have done the same thing to Ponce De Leon. 3rd, Lopez is more of a boxer and what style breaks down a skilled boxer better than a skilled aggressor? If you want to talk about which style matches up better I'd say Israel's come forward style could penetrate Lopez's suspect defense much better than Rafa's boxer-puncher style.
Yeah I'd like to see his boxing skill on display a bit more before I go nuts over him, but dam he's got one hell of a right hook! How tall is he too? Cause he looks pretty dam big for a 122 lb'er.
The dude is like 5'7 man hes big for 122. And I've been crying about his lead right hook for a while before the fight lol I just love that he landed it and it was over 1 2 3...BAM
everyone was picking Lopez by Ud because De Leon has a proven granite chin, that was make this win so impresive, the guy that lopez ko have a heck of a chin with a brutal punch better that Marquez and Vazquez thats for sure. I don't think that vazquez is the better on the division, he had avcarege skills with a solid chin, but he has a ton of heart and a great punch, gonzalez a bantamweight was outboxing him very easly but unfortunaly he had a weak chin. A guy named guerrero was outboxing Vazquez until he gased out a bit and lose a close fight with him.
I will admit that I didn't think JuanMa would KO PDL. I thought he would win a decision from boxing on the outside, which was what he appeared to be doing before he cracked PDL. Being a fan of his I knew he had power, but I didn't think he had THAT kind of power. I really look forward to his future fights
:verysad Just look at Vasquez's face after all 3, it was torn up. Marquez landed the harder shots in all 3, Vasquez has the better chin and could absorb them, Marquez's chin is not as good as Vasquez's, thus he got KD'd and hurt more, dropping more rounds. But he landed more on Vasquez and landed the hardest shots. Marquez is not the hardest puncher in the game, especially at 122, if he was then Vasquez wouldn't have won any of those fights. He's a tremendous puncher, but not like you would think, his great accuracy has a lot to do with it. I don't think either would have KOed Ponce in the first, no way, judging by what I've seen in the past of both. So a guy who is more hittable, less accurate and vulnerable to counter punches and good boxing is going to be a worse match up for a slick boxer-puncher than a guy who has stylistically done very well against boxers more than pressure? Marquez's sharp shooting behind the jab would present much more trouble for Lopez than Vasquez. I don't even think you know what you're talking about here.
I dont know I hate to hype a guy but damn, I got this feeling last night like this was the dawning of another great, I mean Ponce is no Nuryev but damn he is hard and tough as nails and that was quick and brutal destruction of a hard as nails tough. Look out Rafa and Israel and the leaky defenses of those two
I'm not overhyping him and you highlighted here exactly what it was, a guy who has a good chin, was durable, very flawed, but tough and experienced and was blown out in 1 round, all set up off of a crushing hook, that's not normal. I need to see more, but I am hooked to watch him from here on out. I also don't feel like I was watching another future great, but I felt great potential in there. And I am glad someone else see's that the defence of Vasquez and Marquez are serious liabilities if they are dealing with true 1 punch KO artists.
