Juanma-Burns?!

To be fair to Ricky Burns Rocky hes a much diffrent fighter to the one that fought AAA and CJ, he would easily beat both now. As i say Ricky would fight anyone lets see if anything happens!

 

Just seems like crazy match making for Burns. Can't see this happening to be honest. Doesn't make sense for Burns but props to him for taking the fight if it does somehow come off. Juanma is the toughest fight available for him.

 

It is not.

He is a simple boxer, technically speaking but what is wrong with that? The basics are very overlooked today and Burns is well schooled in them and can stick to a disciplined game plan.

Lopez could be the better boxer, but he makes mistakes that Burns with his style can capitalise on. He lunges in and does not seem to have a great sense of balance or range. Burns can take advantage of these things with lateral movement and snappy counter-shots IMO.

He can be hurt and knocked down, but he gets up and recovers well. You got to remember how hard Martinez could hit, he was a very big puncher and landed a good few bombs on Burns.

I am not saying Burns wins, but I think he can.

Conventional wisdom would probably say a Lopez mid-round KO after struggling a bit early with the movement of Burns then getting him out of there. But I think Burns can do it.

 

Fair enough. I'm just not big on Burns. I wish him every success but for me, he's a very basic fighter with no real stand-out quality who's benefited from a good stylistic match-up and will probably continue to benefit from a division thread-bare on talent to be honest.

 

I see what your saying , i think a lot of posters on the Brit forum tend to jump in line and say what the next man is saying to save the inevitable bombardment for saying something different .

I stated a couple of facts , present to this very day and not 2 years ago , Burns is a better fighter and athlete nowadays , Juanma is what he is , a blue chip fighter , on paper this should not be a competetive fight , but i think it could be .

People have quoted " boxing is about levels " , well there is another quote , " promoting is about timing " and i think this would be a fantastic bit of promoting by Warren i really do , on another night Martinez would have put Burns to sleep inside 3 or 4 rounds , given the amount of short power shots he was taking on the inside , but he never and Burns in the end took a commanding decision against a legitimate world champion . Predominantly ranked the #1 SFW in the world by most

Juanma is what he is , like i said a blue chip fighter , he got a shock on an " OFF NIGHT " against Mtagawa but has since bounced back with very strong stoppages against top opposition Conception and Marquez (the Marquez fight was clearly heading for a stoppage) , it only takes an off night .................. now given the size Lopez is giving away here i dont see a blow out , and if the fight drags out Burns starts to make it a fight , thats all im saying .

People are making out this is Tyson vs Bruno on repeat but it aint .........

 

For me the complete opposite

Burns is the ranked under dog here , as you can see :yep , he loses absolutley nothing by going in there and going to war with Juanma and getting stopped .

However Juanma is coming up in weight , against a big SFW , and does have chin and stamina issue's when took to the trenches .

Look Burns has to pull out a career best performance to make this fight competetive but why cant that happen ?? , he's being written off too early for me , against a fighter who's repuatation IMO is two levels above his ability !!!

Boxing is about timing as you say, but the thing is its Juanma's time, he has come up in weight, he isnt drained, he's strong and aggressive and can get up from a punch aswell as give one. I notice you talk about the mtagawa fight, but burns didnt look all that against that relative nobody he fought last evensen (is that his name, can picture him but not name him)? no offence meant but I cant believe im trying to defend my opinion that Juanma wins

Burns is a good boxer, nice skills and deserves his moment in the spotlight, talk like this takes it away from him.

 

Burns seems like a nice enough guy... but he'll get bum RAPED against Lopez!

 

It's not like he's a challenger with nothing to lose. He loses his belt, which is the opposite of nothing.

 

He loses a WBO strap in a predominantly talentless division , gains a massive (by comparison) pay day , and gets props for fighting a top 10 P4P ranked fighter .............

For me Burns makes this fight a fight and its top level match making / management by Frank Warren

That said if Lopez brings his absolute A game its hard to see Burns making the final bell , at least on paper :hey

 

this topic reminds me of a chap called Chris who signed up to boxrec when lockett was fighting Pavlik and made countless posts telling us all how Lockett was going to destroy Pavlik. I think he was a close mate of Lockett.

Well we all saw what happened.

 

Burns as gone way past anything I thought he would do. So I'll sign off by saying good luck to both him and Billy in the future.

 

Lopez is overrated But still way too much for Burns
