Juanma Lopez-Ricky Burns Deal is on The Table?

    by Rey Colon

According to multiple sources in Puerto Rico, there are rumors that an offer of $3 million dollars was extending to WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez, to entice the Puerto Rican star to move up in weight to challenge Ricky Burns, the WBO's champion at super featherweight. Based on the information going around, Burns is willing to come to Puerto Rico to face Lopez.

The date of April 16 in Puerto Rico has already been set aside for Lopez's next fight. Unbeaten Philadelphia boxer Teon Kennedy has been named as the likely opponent.

Rey Colon covers the Puerto Rican boxing scene for Sport Press.

I don't understand why a remmatch with Martinez is not being considered.Money talks probably.

Lopez by TKO in 3 rounds.

Yeah, this would do great numbers in Scotland. Anywhere else, no chance, but in Scotland, it would be big, I'm sure. Scottish fighters usually have absolutely amazing support, so I could easily see 30,000 going to a big card up there.

No. There's no way they offered JuanMa a £3m purse, this fight wouldn't make PPV over here and I can't see gate receipts pulling in the costs to cover it, especially as it would probably be in Puerto Rico [can you really see JuanMa going to Scotland ]. Unlikely that an offer would have been made.

What makes this unbeleivable is the $3mill price tag...

lol, if this fight was made, it would be ten times the massacre the Martinez fight should've been. There is no way he'd survive this.

Juanma should fight a rematch with RM or kick CC A$$, Kennedy is a shameful fight.

Burns would be murdered. Teon Kennedy is a bum though and he should be fighting someone else and at least Ricky has a title.

Don't forget about exchange rates. This actually might make sense.

    Not £3m, $3M. More like £2m.

    Still unrealistic.

    1. Unrealistic money.

    2. Juanma wont travel to maybe make that money slightly more realistic.

    3. Burns would get massacred and would never be the same.

    4. Juanma needs to stay at FW. I still dont feel he is a proven enough fighter to be claiming the plaudits he does in some areas.

    5. I want to see Juanma v Gamboa.

Billy Nelson (Ricky Burns trainer) has said he has heard nothing of this.
