Absolutely. Seeing as Marquez/Vasquez have had more than a few wars between them and should be retiring pretty soon, or they'll decline rapidly and become pretty shot.

His main competitor at 122 therefore in the future will be the winner of Celestino Caballero/Steve Molitor, which I fully expect to be Moltiro. He's a very slick, world class boxer. He's probably just ahead of JuanMa at the moment, on the basis of the length of their title reigns and defences.

The way I see it, there is only one contender for Wilfredo Gomez' status as the greatest junior featherweight of all time, that being Erik Morales. I think Morales sneaks past Gomez head to head, but you have to give Gomez the nod for his sixteen knockout defenses in term of accomplishment. I think that within the next five years, Juanma will clearly establish himself as the third occupant of that rarified air.

Still to early to tell. Has to fight the top dogs to see how good he really is. De Leon doesn't count. The guy is horrible.

He looks one for the future but right now i don't know.

Will have to see how Vasquez and Marquez are after their three wars. If they still have a lot left then i would favour these two over JuanMa, especially Vasquez.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves.

If Vasquez and Marquez have sufficient gas left in the tank following their trilogy (I will assume they do until proven otherwise) then they are still the top dogs in the division and have to be favoured to beat the young Lopez.

Juanma against either Molitor or Caballero is more of a toss-up even money fight.

No offence against Juanma; the boy looks the goods, but beating Ponce de Leon is a whole different story from him beating the four listed above, who all pose a unique pugilistic puzzle that Juanma will have to solve if he is to emerge victorious.

JuanMa claims he wants to go up to 126 in a year or two. Then he wants to go to 130 and finish at 135.

Gomez would've throughouly outboxed Morales IMO. Much better technically, Morales would've been simply too open defensively to have dealt with an accurate power puncher/slickster like prime Gomez.

Lopez has serious power and Rafa and Izzy aren't exactly hard to hit.If the kid has a decent chin he will walk through this division within the next 12-18 months

Yea I agree. If MAB could outbox Morales then Gomez would be able to as well. I think Morales was his best against brawlers because he was very good technically combined with a great chin. He decisively beat pacman yet could never clearly beat MAB although he never clearly lost to MAB as well.

CRAZY HOW HE BEAT THE LAST 2 FIGHTERS IN MORE THAN IMPRESSIONABLE FASHION BUT IF HE WINS OVER MARQUEZ OR VASQUEZ THEN THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN SHOT,HUH... BESIDES, WHO HAVE THESE TWO FOUGHT BESIDES EACH OTHER? I THINK YOU HAVE TO GIVE THE KID A BIT MORE CREDIT THAN THIS, HE'S DEFINITELY VERY GOOD...

First things first, easy on the caps lock.

second, Vazquez also fought Oscar Larios. Another outstanding 122 champ of this time.

third, he's just stating the obvious. Three straight wars with a powerpuncher takes out something even among the best,

lastly, that's all what Juanma is, untested. No more, no less. He's a good kid. Thta's the most as a compliment that he sould get at this stage.
