Nobody was able to KO or even KD Penalosa in more than 60 fights. His excellent defense, solid chin and durability will be an acid test for Juanma and certainly the veteran is capable of scoring another major upset. Seeing it as his farewell fight, I expect Penalosa to give his all in this fight so I pick him to win.

an interview with gerry penalosa on the eve of his tune-up fight

“I’m more than ready for this fight. I’m really preparing for my April schedule in Puerto Rico but I know that will not happen if I lose or even score an unimpressive win tomorrow. So Meraz better be ready,” said Penalosa after the weigh-in.

"I really want to fight Juanma. I know he is good but he is still raw if pitted against me. We‘ll see how good he is once we square off," said Penalosa.

    Lopez UD.

Penalosa is a canny enough operator to last the full distance with the big puncher. Scores should be pretty wide in Lopez' favour though.

    Update:

Gerry Penalosa and Nonito Donaire are training together, high altitude mountain training in Baguio City, Philippines, for their upcoming fights. March for Nonito, and this April for Penalosa. (tune up)

Good for Nonito, he's gonna learn a lot from Gerry.

The logical decision would be Lopez by UD. I think the way to beat Gerry is the way boxers like Gonzalez boxed him. The man was on his way to a wide points UD before Penalosa caught him with a perfect shot.

Juanma's too big, too strong and too quick for Penalosa, and people forget that Juanma is a technically proficient boxer as well - we just haven't gotten to see it for a while. I can see Penalosa winning a few rounds, but Juanma will consistently land the harder punches and eventually score a TKO on accumulation.

i just hope the gerry would make a good account of himself..it's too risky for him to take this fight in puerto rico

This might be a different fight than I expected ... Penalosa is very skilled and is a veteran in the game ... he might be able to use his experience to take this fight deep and possible win the fight.

He will be the stiffest competition for Juanma

I thought that this fight would be dominated by Juanma but now I see this fight possibly going to the decision.

Juanma UD 12 or late rounds stoppage

Penalosa can adjust ... he can exchange punches ... has a high work rate when forced by a younger fight. He threw a ton of punches against Ponce De Leon and many believe that he beat De Leon. He also knocked out Gonzalez with a bodyshot ... in a fight that Gonzalez made very ugly to watch.
