No real difference with sanctioning i think Gamboa Vs John winner will be fighting Juanma for his belt. Also why is John super champ? Did they just give Gamboa a belt for fun?

 

I like the look of that. Throw in Juarez as the other poster mentioned as well. Still want to see Caballero-Lopez, though. The Luevano victory is a very good one and Lopez deserves props for it, but now I'd like to see Juanma get big names on a more regular basis.

For what it's worth, I also think Gamboa would beat Lopez.

John is the 'Super Champ' and, as such, isn't mandated to fight Gamboa. If a fighter holds the WBA belt following a few defences (think it's supposed to be 10), he then gets 'promoted' to super duper status. Gamboa is the 'regular' champ and not an interim one. They have no obligation to fight each other by the WBA's standards.

I love Featherweight at the moment it has serious depth possibly the deepest division in Boxing at the moment. This is how I would like to see them progress.

April 10 Latin Fury Card. I want to see Gamboa and Lopez get some momentum and I don't see what is the point in putting the pair on the shelf for 5/6 months after a fairly easy nights work. Gamboa and Lopez could be out in April on a Latin Fury card they could take on any out of the group of Orlando Salido, Jhonny Gonzales, Daniel Ponce de Leon, Eduardo Escobedo, Fernando Beltran Jr, Jackson Asiku, Jonathon Victor Barros, Alberto Garza, Tomas Villa, Billy Dib, Cornelius Lock, Juan Carlos Burgos, Taklani Ndlovu etc. all very experienced decent contenders at and around this weight.
July/August - HBO. Lopez-Caballero and Gamboa-John/Cristobal Cruz/Elio Rojas.
December - HBO. Lopez-winner of Vasquez-Marquez IV and Gamboa-any of the above that he didn't face.

 

Yeah the winner of Vasquez-Marquez 4 vs either Lopez or Gamboa is probable.

Caballero needs to move up and try and get his name in the hat. Fighting any of the above mooted opponents will surely make him even harder for Lopez/Gamboa to ignore.

 

Love Lennox's commentary. Love the way they turn to him for insight STILL - despite years of him not delivering it.

'So Lennox, when the corner say make yourself small what do they mean?'

'Well, they mean you don't want to get hit, so try to make yourself actually a smaller target' (or words to that effect)

You'd think the guy never boxed, and was winging it. It's strangely endearing. I think it was Tyson-Ruddock where his terrible commentary first came to my attention.


p.s. Gamboa looked awesome. Lopez looked decent enough too but nowhere near as sharp as Gamboa. Nowhere near.

We just don't know the intangibles yet on Gamboa's part. But on face value he'll tear Lopez apart.

 

JuanMa is a fighter that can land nice shots from mid-range but prefers to stand shoulder to shoulder and punch away.

Which is all good; but against Gamboa he'll be beaten to the punch and utterly destroyed IMO, especially considering that Gamboa looks to be picking up little nuances all the time.

 

Yeah Lopez is actually quite ragged IMO, he fights quite sloppy in spots, like he's not totally focussed on how he's meant to be executing his gameplan. Or maybe he just smothers his own work. Gamboa's is so much cleaner and business like, he'll catch Lopez dozing.

However I suspect Lopez might dig deep in a tough fight, he's kinda demonstrated that already, whereas we don't know how Gamboa will react in the trenches, how long he can maintain his clean work.

Hope they make the fight soon, but highly unlikely.

 

Okay, JuanMa may have been weight drained, but he has shown that he can be hurt.

Gamboa has been floored by never noticably hurt IMO. If Gamboa can hurt Lopez, no way will he be able to run like he did against Mtagwa. He'll get finished off.

Will be a good fight, but I expect at least one more card with both of them on it; think Arum knows who the better man is and will try and get as much cash out of JuanMa before he feeds him to Gamboa.
