I don't really understand why Juanma Lopez is showing up on various P4P lists. Who has he beaten to merit that? Ponce de Leon? Penalosa? Luevano? All good wins, but he's still young. If he beats Gamboa and Caballero, then I can see it, but for now, why does he deserve that spot?
P4P is all speculation and opinions. Juanma has a better case for being on the list than Donaire or Hasegawa who people were putting on.
JuanMa is a big hype job. Him extending himself badly and throwing right hooks behind straight lefts over and over will get him KTFO by Gamboa... just wait and see.
lopez is on p4p lists but its top 20 not top 10, I would rank him above gamboa though. I think gamboa gets knocked out if he fights lopez. Gamboa is all hype right now, can beat club fighters but not sure if he can hang with the big boys.
world champion in two different weight classes... his resume is a lot better than both caballero and gamboa :hat
I don't have him in mine. He's maybe in the top 15 (due more to a weak list of alternatives than anything else) but he still needs another big win for him to break into my top ten P4P list.
Gamboa should be higher than him, their resumes aren't that far apart, so it all comes down to who has the better skill, and that is Gamboa.
They competed on totally different levels in the amateurs, Gamboa has tons and tons of experience handling guys who telegraph their punches and do them over and over. Thus far Gamboas leaky defense hasn't really gotten him destroyed has it? He's surely adapting to the pro game, and he'll see that left hand right hook routine early and catch JMM in an exchange and send him dreaming.
