According to manager Orlando Piñeiro, WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez is going to make big defensive adjusments prior to his next fight which is tentative for April 16 in Puerto Rico. The rumored opponent is unbeaten boxer Teon Kennedy. Juanma's team feel the the Puerto Rican star has left himself open to damaging punches in some of his recent fights.

I hope the adjustments are gradual as if they are too drastic it could be worse.

It isnt surprising, marquez almost got him out of there, he just needs to improve what he already has and improve his defense slightly.

I will never understand how a fighter who is relatively tall for that weight division, with la nice reach advantage doesn't BOX the **** out of his opponents. Instead he gets drawn into wars and slug-fest with far inferior opponents. There was NO way in hell he should have been in a 12 Round Back-Alley Brawl with Rogers Mtagwa nor getting hit as much as he did versus Penalosa.

It could prolong his career for a few more years.

I just hope he incoroporates the changes into his own style, instead of just changing his style completely.

I have seen this happening to many boxers before. Those with good heavy hands kind of get used to people falling. Stop working the other areas and get into trouble when opponents don't fall. I hope this is true and they make the adjustments

I don't think his defense is ordinarily too bad, really, considering he's a true puncher and it's the strongest part of his game, and should be emphasized. But, he gets a little reckless and it wouldn't hurt to tighten it up a little bit. That said, leopards and spots...you know, all that jazz.
