Everyone is giving Penalosa props and rightly so, including myself.
However, far too many are dismissing Juanma's boxing clinic he laid on Penalosa while heaping praises on
    Penalosa for absorbing punsishemt.

Penalosa coming in was the experienced boxer who can also punch with some starch.

Give credit to Penalosa for absorbing the punishment, however the few punches he landed were easisly
shaken off with a smile by Juanma.

Bottom line Juanma put on a boxing clinic....after the 1st round ( the round I thought he would KO ) Penalosa
showed visible concern in his corner.

Props to Penalosa for taking punishment......but, like it or not it proved to be a MISMATCH!!!!

The fight also showed Lopez's waekness,he can be timed and hit flush and he is kinda flat footed altough it's gonna be hard to find somebody to exploit that.

I knew JuanMa's an excellent technician and a superb puncher. But a few questions had to be answered, and he passed them with an A+.

Good chin - took a few clean rights, Penalosa has power, no problems at all.
Superb stamina and punch output - never out of breath, simply amazing punch numbers.
Very good ring generalship - always in control, took just a few clean blows.

He's the total package. If Bob Arum has any sense left in that big head, he'll put some serious money in the guy and puts JuanMa together with Vazquez or Marquez next. Even Jhonny Gonzalez is below his league. Fight at least 3 more times this years, and JuanMa will be a big star by the end of the year.

In all fairness, what defensive boxer has never been tagged a few times in a fight....at the very least in a round?
If that is his weakness, then he will be alright....if you have seen him before....he can box.

JuanMa put on a great performance. Penelosa however was way outsized.

Too much bravery for the Filipino.

He is too small for his size - like 3" difference or so - and doesn't throw too many punches. He got excellent defensive skills though without even using some footwork.

    Word!

Outsized, Penalosa for his advanced age should have no business at SBW, much more with a young killer like JuanMa. The card is too stacked against GP in all aspects, but the Fearless and Ageless One took it, just to get the attention and payday that was denied him his whole career. Don't get me wrong, JuanMa is one of my favorite up-and-comer. This fight is a necessary litmus test for him, a baptism into the deeper waters of the fight game that sadly only a Penalosa can give him. But Gerry deserves all the accolades he is getting for the mere fact that he stood tall even if all significant factors are stacked against him.

"Clinic" is not the right word and may be construed a little disrespectful...

Lopez didn't put on a boxing clinic homie.

Lopez simply outbombed and outslugged Penalosa.

Big props to Penalosa for lasting that long.

That, my friend, qualifies as a boxing clinic.
