    Agree it's a mismatch.

A young lion against an aging veteran. Juan Ma's youth and speed showed the difference.

Lopez looked good, but I worry about the clean shots that he was taking. It may have been a case of him knowing that the guy just couldnt hurt, but if its not, he really needs to sure up his D before he steps up to fight bigger stonger fighters.

Yea..I just watched the fight again...I'd like him to jab more, he didn't do much of that...then again he didn't have to, he did land 400 punches in 9 rounds..

Isn't it obvious? You need not tell it, bro, we know that it is obvious. Apparently, Penalosa although old and smaller cannot be knocked down by a physically superior Juanma. Penalosa still has gas in his tank to survive the match but Roach was prudent enough to stop the fight. Penaloza actually laid down the blueprint for beating Juanma.

It is a mismatch but it is too far out to call a clinic. Penaloza actually has a solid defense although he physically bamboozled by Juanma.

I don't see how you can call it a "boxing clinic." Juan Manuel simply pounded on the smaller man till he wore out and threw in the towel... not much technical craft or ring smarts required in employing such a strategy.

If you like to call that a boxing clinic then I guess a guy like Jorge Arce was putting on an incredible clinic every time he stepped into the ring and beat an opponent.

true. same as what i said in the other thread. penalosa was hitting him with clear shots to the chin which clearly sting juanma a bit.

good thing that juan ma is big enough to absorb it. i wonder how a juanma vs. donaire fight will pan out, they are same hieght but juanma is clearly the bigger size fighter now.

its a good storyline since donaire is penalosa student now. the defeated teacher being avenged by the student.

it was not so much a boxing clinic. just pure mismatch in terms of size.

Not in the mold of Hopkins' schooling of Pavlik. But Juanma is strong and can learn new tricks as he gets older. A potential P4P and he can probably go up to welterweight if he plays his cards well.

If you take all the above qualities as a whole this guy is going to be a superstar following a win over one of the elite. I was particularly impressed by the punch numbers. Look at the other guys who throw a high number of punches per round and in a fight (margarito, pw, calzaghe juan diaz). Those guys are not 'punchers in the traditional sense'. Lopez is a savage puncher and its pretty scary that he can do those sort of numbers plus i think he pretty much through every conventional shot in the book.

This was a boxing lesson in how to hit and not get hit of the higest order. Look at the stats lopez outlanded him by 300+ punches over 9 rounds and took little to no punishement himself. The fight does not have to be stick and move to be classed as a boxing clinic.

    took no punishment?

whenever they both opend up gerry landed wide hooks heavily on juanma. one in particular hit him on the point of the shin whilst his feet were flat and square.

maybe he was getting sloppy or didnt respect gerrys power but if he does move up in weight he cant get himself in positions to be hit like that again. i really like juanma so i hope he ties this up

You cant swim without getting wet, id rather he take a few and hit the other guy a whole lot more.
