I know you have been arguing this line in another thread on the general forum regarding same day weigh-ins, and I agree with you. We should return to the same day weigh-in scenario, because it means that fighters will be fighting in or close to their designated weight class; it makes it a more level playing field, weight wise.
It would disillusion fans if too many fights were being called off which is perfectly forseeable. Its really very simple, bring back same day weigh ins. The guys that are draining lots of weight at the moment will either be smart and move up a division, or sacrifice their strength.
Exactly:good These guys are getting too much of an advantage at the moment. Same day weigh-ins veto's that advantage to a large extent.
I know previous day weigh ins were introduced to try to reduce serious head injuries but I think that they have just changed the source of the risk. Some fighters seem to be able to rehydrate far better than others and are therefore able to dry themselves out before weigh in and fight in a division far lower than they should be in. Examples of this in recent years are Arturo Gatti and Scott Harrison who have both looked ridiculously large compared to opponents come fight night, although it has to be said that draining yourself dry for a weigh in doesnt work for all fighters, Erik Morales and Miguel Cotto both looked like death in their final few fights at Super Feather and Light Welter respectivley and both looked far more shaky than normal. I remember seeing a picture of Cotto weighing in for his final fight at 140, he looked like one of these starved people from a country thats been ****ed over by a tsunami. I reckon same day weigh ins with maybe 2 or 3 final week weigh ins with a pre determined limit for championship fights would work.
Well said:good Changing the rules was meant to benefit the fighters, but some pugilists have taken advantage of the fact to pack on a huge amount of pounds late. If you can't make the weight on the day of the fight, then move up a division. Its as simple as that.
