Low blow is just an excuse, just like the Clottey fight, he quit just like Devon Alexander. The real low blows were when he fougt Cotto.
I think the age may have hurt him some BUT he is what he is, things were going rough so he quit, in fact he never really tried, he had plenty of opportunities and just wouldn't let his hands go.
