Scoring rounds is not an exact science. There's plenty of room for "tastes," and contrary to what a lot of boxing fans say, biases. There's too much controversy, cries of robbery in close fights that could go either way (or no way at all), and of course, the chances of corruption. In order to end all of the drama and the annoying attitudes of fans that claim "YDSAB" if you disagree even slightly with their somehow supreme, infallible scores, I wish an objective scoring model could be applied to boxing. The first issue is that it would be impossible to do in real time by humans. That means technology would have to be used. I know this might sound sci-fi for now, but, what would your objective scoring model look like? I was thinking something along the lines of, 3 jabs equal 1 power shot, and 1 clean shot equals 1.5 partial shots, something like that. I know it might sound ridiculous or crazy, but all the drama is getting really old. I think a better system should replace the current one in the near future.
Even then how do you know for sure if a shot lands or not, someone still has to make a decision. There is no way around this problem because it will always have to involve humans and they are always fallible. If we're being completely abstract then if there was a nanotechnology type suit which is transparent that the boxers can put on which registers where a punch lands then that would be the closest thing to getting an objective accuracy of shots landed.
Promoters will then find the means to hack those chips, hack the system...ensuring their fighters win
A knockdown ends the round. Fighters have a minute to recover. The fighter who can't make the scratch loses. Only way to be sure.
