At the very worse Matthysse lose 4 rounds, how did one judge have it a draw and the other two for Matthysse by only a 2 round margin? atsch:huh
Wouldn't exactly say disgraceful. I thought they were a hair charitable to Provo. I had it 116-112 Matthysse. As I saw it, he was never in danger of losing on points, as it took Provo's late rally to make it that close. I have a theory. I often find that when 1 guy wins rounds by a wide margin, when the other guy actually competes in a round or does more than he had, people tend to score that round for him. Even though the 1st guy still actually did better.in the round. He just didn't dominate as he had in previous rounds. I think this may have been the case in some of the early rounds last night.
That was an easy fight to score though.. We all completely agree on the score, the rounds Matthysse won were impossible to score for Provo, and some of the rounds Provo won could have gone to Matthysse. Yeah "improvement rounds" is what they call it.. But these are professional judges, not casual fans, they shouldn't be falling for that. Anyways that fight was so easy to score that even Stevie Wonder could have scored it. Awful judging. When fans score more accurately than professional judges do there's a problem.
Last night I had it 116-112 for Lucas. I watched it again this morning. I gave rounds 1-3 to Lucas 4 to Provo 5-7 to Lucas 8 to Provo 9-10 to Lucas & 11-12 to Provo. Again I had it 116-112 for Lucas.:bbb
Yeah it was a very easy fight to score. I think 99% of us had it that way, but the scorers who matter can't get it right, not even one of them. atsch
The drawn card was iffy to say the least. However, I don't necessarily have any issue with the two 115-113 cards. A score of 115-113 sounds close but I think in this case, despite it being only a one-round swing, it's possible to have that score but never in a million years 114-114. There were seven rounds which clearly and unequivocally belonged to Matthysse. Ergo, impossible to have it as anything else other than a win for him. He won rounds big and clearly. However, I think there's a conceivability that the other five could be scored to Provodnikov by a judge without them having to have any agenda. Of those five, perhaps only three of them (the 4th, 11th and 12th) were clear, but I don't think it's unreasonable that rounds 8 and at a stretch 9 could have gone Provodnikov's way either as they were close ones. And regardless of whether you think a fighter dominated / clearly won a round or if you think they just edged a close one, they still get the same score of 10-9 at the end of the day. The overall flow of the fight indicated quite rightly that Matthysse clearly won, but the vagaries of the ten point must system means that, in theory, the fight can still look competitive on a score card, at least in my opinion. I'd be slightly more inclined to lean towards 116-112 than I would 115-113, but I don't take too much umbrage to those two cards. The close-ish nature off the odd round means that, for me, any card that has Lucas winning by anything from 2 to maybe 5 points is ok with me and doesn't really need scrutinizing. The judging aggregate app figures posted earlier came back with an average score of 116-113 to Matthysse based on 108 cards, which seems alright to me.
