Judging them on RESUME ONLY, who is top of the three - JONES, HOPKINS or TONEY?

And a few of those 17 world champs were pretty damn good fighters and also some who went on to win titles after Jones like Woods, Gonzalez (beat DM), Reggie Johnson...

 

On pure record, Hopkins has beaten more credible opponents (though RJJ was a better boxer) including DLH, Trinidad, Winky, Tarver, Pavlik etc. RJJ has spectacularly schooled guys, but not guys of that calibre.

It hurts me to be honest b/c Jones is my all time favorite boxer. But the truth is the truth. BHOP's resume is better BUT i still think Jones was the better fighter.

Toss up between Hopkins and Toney, and then it comes down to whether you value the consistent or the extraordinary. I've got all the respect in the world for what it takes to rule one division for as long as Hopkins did, but let's face it, those weren't all the middleweights of the 60s he was defending against.

It's easy to laugh at what Toney has become, and his resume might have more flaws, but the level of comp he faced from 160-175 in the 90s, followed by beating Jirov at cruiser, followed by a legitimate run as a heavyweight contender, and not just cherry picking one belt, is a Golden Era resume in modern times.

Bernard will rightly be remembered as the "greater" fighter, but nobody in recent years touches Toney's resume.

 

Hops biggest wins are Trinidad, Tarver, and Pavlik, imo. One could mention Oscar/Wright (although the wright fight was terrible to watch).

Jones biggest wins are Hops, Toney, and Ruiz. One could mention Hill/Griffin.

Toney's biggest wins are Nunn, McCullam, and Jirov. One could mention Holy/Barkley.

To be honest everyone of these resumes can be picked a part. Hops fought a lot of little guys, Jones picked and chosed a guy like Ruiz, and Toney is lazy and inconsistent. However there are good qualities -- Hops longevity and he beat a lot of top 10 guys, Jones way he dominated these guys and he fought a lot of champs, and Toney seems to be the one who comfortably fights at heavy after having fought all the guys he has from middle up to there.
