Judging them on RESUME ONLY, who is top of the three - JONES, HOPKINS or TONEY?

I voted Jones, His resume gets underrated tremendously here... All you hear people say is cherry picker, ducked fighters, garbage men ect. Having moved up from junior middle to win a belt at heavyweight is a HUGE accomplishment, and to drop back down from heavyweight in your very next fight to regain your Light Heavyweight belts is a great accomplishment that gets underrated and you don't hear much about.

Combine that and also having the two dominant performances over the very two fighters we are comparing resumes with seals the deal for me.

I do believe an argument can be made for each fighter here, it is close and all three have very excellent resumes.

 

IMO, Toney's campaign at heavyweight is more impressive than Jones one fight against Ruiz.

 

Resume only...I'd say Jones.

 

You've got a point there. If he'd listened to his body instead of his pride and his wallet, and retired after the first Tarver fight, we'd all still have a much different perspective on Roy.

But he didn't, and in this particular comparison, that hurts him.

 

Purely based on the quantity of good wins, I think it's Toney, and quite clearly to be honest, although it's close between all 3.


Other factors come into play such as the way in which they won and the circumstances (I think these are important factors when judging the quality of a resume, and not just quality of skillset), such as Hopkins pulling off one-sided masterclass showings against Tarver and Pavlik while in his 40's, or Roy totally outclassing Toney and getting a very clear win over Hopkins themselves, and of course losses should be counted as well.

So, wins/losses taken into consideration, how convincing the wins were, and other outside circumstances, I'll say Jones, just by a small margin over the other two though.

Very close call between all 3, probably just comes down to a few personal preferences when judging each man's resume that decides it.

J/k man. I had the same thought myself... very, very close, all three.

 

How people can vote Hopkins over Jones is beyond me ?? Jones resume is 10 times better and lets not forget that Jones always fought bigger guys the same can't be said for Hopkins ! Plus Jones has wins over both Toney and Hopkins its not even close !

 

10 times is a streetch but Jones 'win over Toney pretty much eclipses Hopkins best win in Oscar ,Tito Tarver and Pavlik .


Oscar being a smaller man and Jones regardless of his losses already held a win over Tarver ! Outside of that all you have is Trinidad .That was Hopkin's best win.

And I don't hold the Pavlik win in high regard because 1 I expected that outcome and 2 Pavlik only had one meaningful fight with Taylor twice ..:good I can't hold that too high because who I Pavlik really ?Outside the current middleweight champ he's barley proven.

 

James Toney stayed at Heavyweight..!!!!!!! and still no one has really really beaten him.

 

I beleive Peter beat him twice ..
