So I've been watching a lot of Julian Jackson footage lately and am just astounded by his power. But here's my question, since, y'know, I hadn't been born yet: How come he never fought any of the top middleweights of the mid-late 80s? Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, Duran? He was a legitimate WBA Light Middleweight and WBC Middleweight titleholder for a good few years when some of those fighters were in the same divisions. Was he just a few years late? Was it those losses to McClellan? Once again, I wasn't even born until 1990 but was there ever talk of matching The Hawk up with some of these greats? I have no doubt they would have likely outclassed him but I feel like there's a chance he could have landed some good shots and done damage. A fight with Hagler would have been an absolute war, I think. Anyways, if there's anybody who would know, it would be you Classic Forum guys.
Timing. He was only coming up at 154 when these guys were winding their careers down..He would have been on nobodies radar because he had no real clout at that stage.
I do not think I ever saw a fighter punch harder than him. But I think he is a little younger than the greats and usually at a lower weight class.
