So lets get this straight. One time he was floored by a solid right hand from Danny Perez and he got up as if someone had just tripped him, no effect whatsoever. Then he gets wobbled by a temple shot from 170lb Daniel Santos and this is somehow indictative of how vunerable he is? Fact is it doesn't take much to throw your equilibrium off. It can happen to anyone. What Santos was able to do after that is what is more important.
He's not just as shakey in real terms. His chin is bad, but remember, Jackson fought full fledged middleweight punchers like McClellan and McCallum at 154 was hardly a featherfist. Cotto has been hurt by 140lb fighters as we know. How the hell does being bigger help Margarito? It means he can't just bully him, and with Jackson's considerable power you know, he may actually even think twice about plodding forward with no thought of defence. To be honest, your comparisons are absolutely laughable. Santos, decent puncher, but why the hell does it justify how hes going to take Jackson's punches? Or Cotto?
It justifies it because even if Santos doesn't punch as hard as Jackson he could not stop Margarito's onslaught, despite wobbling him early on. Similarily, Margarito's own strength was showing on an opponent who outweighed him by 10lbs. Santos is definately bigger than Jackson which also means he's a bit more durable downstairs. Going toe to toe with Margarito is a bad idea. Jackson would play right into that game and probably get stopped. Could Jackson somehow pull off a miracle shot and knock Margarito out? Sure, but so could alot of other guys. At a certain point power means dick. This is one of those times.
So what you are saying is that no puncher no matter how hard would be favourd to stop Margo at 147-154, regardless of anything?
I'm saying that going toe to toe with him is a bad idea. His chin is unreal and he invites people to hit it. All the while he is hitting your body and hitting your chin with uppercuts. The whole way, for all 12 rounds. Jackson hit like a truck but that only matters with an opponent whose chin is a liability. Margarito's isn't. What do you think would have happened if Kessler, whom most of you regard as a big puncher, stood toe to toe with Andrade trying to get the knockout? What would have happened to Zab Judah, who obviously had more punching power than Corley, stood toe to toe with Cotto? The more time you spend trying to KO your opponent the more options you give him. For a numbers guy like Margarito that is bad news. Trainers are always afraid of this sort of thing. Putting a refined boxer in with a brawler who has no love or respect for the game. Someone who is just so strong and so durable that skill becomes irrelevant. I'm not saying Margarito couldn't be knocked out. What I am saying is for Jackson to knock Margarito out he's gonna have to do something akin to winning at the bingo hall. His odds aren't awful, but they aren't good either. And the more chances he takes, the more effective Margarito will be.
Why on earth would Jackson go toe-toe? You do not have to got toe-toe to hit Margo, at all. Frankly if he took the amount of punches against Jackson as he did Cotto, how you could expect him not to be knocked out baffles me. If you do that is. I am trying to clarify.
Jackson would go toe-to-toe. What would it matter? Margarito will be waking up to sniffing salts if he's stupid enough to "invite" Julian Jackson to tag his chin. His power is only useful against someone who's chin is a liability? Like the very durable Buster Drayton, who took one flush shot from Jackson before hitting the floor like a sack of potatoes and calling it a night? You aren't considered the hardest P4P hitter of all time by knocking out weak-chinned fighters.
Indeed. Jackson would have no need to go toe-toe though. Bah, basically I am just trying to be as neutral as possible. Odds are Margo would get stopped early.
Jackson was no stranger to being lured into a brawl. Why are you acting like this isn't the truth? Also with the amount of punches he took from Cotto note how all he had was some bruises. Cotto had broken cheekbones and seriously rearranged faces over less than 12 rounds yet all he gave Margarito was some bruises. What would Jackson do if his punches didn't move Margarito? Don't act like this is a big if when all you guys were acting like jackasses saying Cotto would cut Margarito down.
Don't get so defensive. What does the damage on his face from Cotto make any difference? The number of punches do matter, as if he took that number against a guy who was one of the hardest punchers ever then he would be stuffed. He has been hurt by a guy who is not a weak puncher, but there is a massive diffrence between a hard puncher at 154, and p4p one of the hardest punchers ever who fought at 154lbs. If Jacksons punches did nothing then he would be stuffed.
You mean this Buster Drayton? http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=001319&cat=boxer Knocked out in 3 by some unknown named Kevin Perry? Knocked out in 8 by some unknown named Brinatty Maquilon? Only 1 year removed from being knocked out in 3 by Jackson? I'll say it again, maybe you'll understand it this time. Jackson did what he was SUPPOSED to do against those vunerable guys. Margarito is a whole other character. It's too bad we can't see this matchup because I'd love to see you dumb assholes eating crow yet again.
A guy like Mayorga had a granite chin. He took flush shot after flush shot from Vernon Forrest, definitely a harder one punch hitter than Cotto, directly on the chin and taunted him. We saw what happened when he tried that out vs a true power puncher in Trinidad though. Margarito has proven he has a great chin, but has been rocked before. There's no reason to think his chin is any better than Mayorga's, especially not at 154. Given how Mayorga reacted to a true power puncher's shots in Trinidad, I don't see how anyone would be stupid enough to assume that Margarito(who's chin is not really even as proven as Mayorga's when he faced Tito) would be able to take shots from an even harder puncher at a weight he's already shown vulnerabilities(slight as they may be) at. That's just illogical.
