He couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag. He couldn't hit the water if he fell out of a boat. He punched Chuck Norris in the face. Chuck Norris laughed. Etc.
You have not heard about Marciano going down in history now with a 6-43 record?! On the brightside, bow down to your new boxing god, the 31-0 Eric Crumble!
No, he had great power. He may be overrated as a fighter though. His quality of opposition at 160 was pretty weak, except for Graham and McClellan. His power bailed him out against Graham. At 154, he beat an overrated Baek, overrated Franciso De Jesus, was wiped out by McCallum, and his power won it for him against the far more skilled Norris. Drayton was pretty much used up by the time they fought. Still, that lefthook dropped him in sections.
I don't think that I would use the word "overrated" in any context with Julian Jackson. I don't think for a minute that he was overrated as a fighter...I think all who have assessed him in that department are fair and objective, and aren't under any illusions or misconceptions about this overall fighting abilities.....and as for his punching power, well I'll just be kind and say that there ain't no way that JJ can possibly be deemed "overrated", even by the most full of himself modern day boxing revisionist.
No sir. McCallum's stoppage was deserved, but it was a stoppage, not a knockout. On the ropes under fire, ref made a good decision. McCellan Jackson today? Would've made the weight bully threads mentioned here. As fight II starts the commentators mention this was Gerald's last fight at MW - had to weigh several times to come at 160, then fight night was closer to 180lbs. I'd say Julian didn't knock out either because the first guy was and is one of the best in the biz. Rarely do great fighters get knocked out..Pacman IMO being one of the few exceptions. So a former 154lber fighting a guy who had to move up to SMW next fight...had he ko'd him...hmmm I'd question if he was on something... Julian's power IMO was something special to watch from Jr. middle up to Middle. Easily in my top 3 best pure punchers ever.
