How were Chávez Sr. vs. Arce I & II, btw? Vaguely sure I might've seen highlights of either the first or second one, but immediately blocked it out - whether because it was so pathetic or because my dedicated memory banks for new boxing are like null these days, I'm not sure.

Yamileth Mercado vs. Irasema Rayas, 8x2" rounds @ featherweight

 

Clearly a gimme for 22 year old "Yeimi", who is 15-2 (4) and riding a hot streak that includes avenging her more recent defeat. "La Guera" Rayas is 4-5-1 and is a natural welter, having fought as high as cruiser (!!!), and was clearly brought in to lose and drained to hell in a 'for good measure' insurance policy.

 

Yeimi teeing off with long 1-2s at range, mostly thudding into Rayas' forearms, but stamping a few into the forehead. Hooks sweeping low across the muffin top as they wade in close. Rayas throwing hesitant check-jabs up from her waist and looping slow rights, missing by a mile.

10-9 Mercado

 

Mercado really working the old girl over now, layering hooks and rights into Rayas' head and body, overwhelming her and not letting her get a punch in edgewise. I'd say this was a gas-out risk, but she appears to be packing just enough stamina to do this nonstop in two-minute bursts...thus far.

20-18 Mercado

 

Mercado has a bloody nose, the plot (and coagulant) thickens....

The commentators had been tossing around the name "Jackie Nava" for a round or so before that...and yeah, no. Keep this poor girl the hell away from that fight. Sure, currently Mercado ranks probably 2nd among Mexico's featherweights boasting XX chromosomes - but there's a HUGE gap between #1 and #2. Even with Mercado being half the Aztec Princess's age (can't believe the women's ATG is 40 and still on form!), she is still only half the fighter - if that. Jackie would give her a vicious beating.
