Perhaps in early August at an agreed catchweight of 169lbs.

These guys actually sparred @ WildCard, way back in 2011:
(two different camera angles/recordings here, same six-round session)

...and honestly, Vanes kicked his ass. :deal:

Of course, take that with a grain of salt, as sparring is "just" sparring. Spadafora kicked Mayweather's ass with headgear on, doesn't mean he could hang with him in a real pro fight at any point in history.

Chávez also, however, last fought over a year ago (will have been 15 months come fight night), when he got shut out by Canelo - and before that had a 1½ year layoff following his UD10 over Dominick Britsch, which itself came a 1½ year layoff after his UD10 win over Marcos "Cheetos" Reyes. Martirosyan just ended his own 2 year hiatus getting murked by Golovkin after a surprisingly strong opening round.

    Tale of the tape:
    • Chávez 6'1" tall, 73" reach, 32 years old, pro record of 50-3-1 (32) with only 2 amateur bouts (both exhibitions against family friend Jorge Páez Jr.)
    • Martirosyan 5′ 11½″ tall, 70" reach, 32 years old, pro record of 36-4-1 (21), preceded by a 120-10 amateur campaign (in which he was 8x US & national Golden Gloves champion and fought in the 2004 Olympics, eliminated before the medal stages by the great Lorenzo Aragón)

Also, sorry if I just murdered Santa Claus for anybody by bursting this particular bubble, but the man you know as "JCC Jr." isn't technically/legally a real "Junior". His full name is Julio César Chávez Carrasco. To be a true Jr. he would need to have the same name as his legendary father, which was Julio César Chávez González. :deal:

JCC doesn't have the power or precision of a Golovkin, even if that brush with savagery did cause some avulsion of Martirosyan's jaw (in the literal sense, putting actual fissures in his chin bones, or just figuratively, his punch resistance, more to due with effects on his cerebral system) I still don't see the Mexican replicating the KO result here.

Likewise, though, Martirosyan wasn't even a massive puncher at middleweight - like Chávez, more of a heavy-handed guy than a "bang-wallop, goodnight trollop" killer puncher. More precise to be sure, but still not getting the job done here and removing this from the judges' hands.

I say controversial gift for Julio, a`la the Zbik decision, maybe a draw.

After seeing Omar get absolutely ****ed on by Jose Carlos Paz this past weekend, I have a hard time seeing either Chavez bro doing themselves any good in boxing going forward lol

Honestly would favor Vanes, even at 168

Hes more skilled, but more importanly has more heart....

He will come in shape & ready for war

He actually.didn't look bad against GGG until he got sparked...

Where's your vote? :deal: So far in the poll JCCC by stoppage is actually the one option nobody has yet gone for.

Put me down for it. After what GGG just did? JCC kills him.

JCC Jr. has been completely useless post Martinez. He was only ever good as a weight bully... Once he couldn't make 160 he became a high level journeyman at best. Martirosyan UD. Doubt there's enough invested in JCC Jr. at this point for a robbery to be valid anymore. He's bust.

I actually think Vanes stops him at this point, he's taken too many severe beatings, and went up and down in weight far too many times, I think even making 168 would take too much out of him, and would make him vulnerable to just about anyone with a slight amount of pop. He's ripe for the picking.
