It's been all Álvarez midway through...sort of taking the **** out of Tursunov, taking his time gliding in circles around him with his hands low and smoothly smacking his man up. Tursunov with a high guard applying pressure but very little offensive imagination, ineffective for the most part.

5th was Tursunov's best round. He needs a KO, though.

 

58-56 Álvarez seems like a good card. A shutout would be maybe stretching it unfairly in his favor, while a draw would be doing so in Tursunov's.

 

UD for Álvarez, again announcing just the result with no scores. I don't love that.

 

Erislandy Álvarez Borges vs. José Ignacio Muñoz Bolivar, 6 rounds @ light welterweight

 

HUGE pop for Erislandy Álvarez, the only Cuban to capture a gold medal in Paris earlier this month. He dances his way down the ramp with rock star swagger, a shiny robe, Bret Hart sunglasses, and the crowd eating it up giving him the princely treatment.

His opponent, José Ignacio Muñoz Bolivar, is a prototypical Colombian glass banger with a 16-3 record, fourteen by KO, moving up from lightweight.

 

Skill difference is almost comical.

 

Muñoz is game at least, just as Belousov and Tursunov were before him. The commentator is delighted that all the "away corner fighters" have been giving it a proper go even if outmatched.

 

Álvarez lands a low blow - really laid in with it and was probably thinking body shot knockout but miscalculated his aim just a bit and caught Muñoz "bang on the cup" as the Brit commentator opines.

 

Álvarez stopped treating it like a light spar partway into the fifth...showing he can probably dust this off if he wants, but only a round left to do it now.

 

Álvarez took a UD over Muñoz, and then Roniel Iglesias Sotolongo took a split decision over Gurgen Madoyan.

 

Arlen López Cardona vs. Luis Antonio Tejada, 8 rounds @ light heavyweight
