Of course most of the attention will be on Danny Jacobs vs. Big Useless Lumpy Sack of Nepotism w/ an Iron Chin (hell, that one might honestly be at best the fourth or fifth most interesting fight on the card, behind Yeleussinov vs. Sánchez, Hooker vs. Pérez, and Smith vs. García) - but this is the de facto if not the nominal main event of tomorrow night's Matchroom card in Phoenix. The vacant WBC flyweight title will be on the line. The last time Rosales vied for the vacant belt, he knocked out an overweight Daigo Higa to claim it...but eight months later dropped it to Chris Edwards in his second defense. Edwards in turn would hot-potato the belt, getting knocked out in his second defense by none other than Martínez - but it was overturned into a No Contest when the overzealous Martínez threw a late hit on a downed Edwards. The hard-hitting young Mexican has but one loss, via SD in his pro debut over four years ago. The wiry Nicaraguan looking now to become a 2x champion - himself pretty heavy-handed, and the cousin of Román "Chocolatito" González - has lost four times, all by decision, and but for one all versus touted Brits. This is going to be a war. As the most competitive match-up on the bill (on paper), it should also steal the show.
Very, very good matchup for Rosales i think. He's the much taller and also bigger guy, fighting an opponent who will close the distance and literally run into his range. If Aguilar isn't able to hurt him early, i think Rosales gonna outwork him over 12 rounds. Aguilar hasn't the best defence so i wouldn't even be too surprised if Rosales catching him with something big. Aguilar is a bit overhyped. He beat Andrew Selby at home. Selby admitted he didnd't prepare for the altitude in Mexico. And Edwards just had a very rough weight cut, admitted he can't make the weight anymore and now is moving up two(!) weight classes. Edwards vs. Rosales was a close fight despite Edwards winning fair and square i wouldn't say he dominated. He edged it with great jab work. Just. This is a pick em' ....FOTY contender I'm picking Rosales.
