Except it did make him blink, he'd be hit more, be off balance more, find it harder to get his shots off and be concerned about being. The biggest mistake some fans make is thinking a man can walk through punches, it rarely happens. Mosley/Castillo/Hatton/Delahoya all top level chins, none were walking through Mayweathers shots

1 of Chavez's biggest underrated strengths in this contest is his defense though

H2H i think Pea is much better, for what it's worth. Better lead, more consistent and superior body punching, sharper/more accurate puncher, better pressure fighting, better head movement.

I think in combination punching floyd and counterpunching peak floyd has an edge, and maybe even lateral movement to an extent, but I see Whitaker doing almost everything else better, against better competition.

I find them hard to seperate, Whitaker has the better radar but his defense relies on reflexes and against quicker boxers he had problems. Floyd handles speedsters better than Whitaker.

When it comes to accuracy both are very accurate. When it comes to speed Mayweather has the edge. Whitaker has the better jab and lateral movement (so we differ there)

And no I don't think Whitaker had better opposition, especially once Floyd adds Pacquaio to his resume

That is an incredibly over-simplified view though. First of, the Castillo fight was at 135lbs. This is at 130lbs, Floyd was a different animal at that weight. He was more offensive orientated but still exceptionally good defensively, he put combinations together with speed, power and precision. He was pretty strong at the weight aswell, and in my opinion was a very good body puncher back then.

Also, we're ignoring the possibility that Floyd was carrying an injury in the Castillo fight, and possibly that he just had an off night. To say 'if Castillo could make it close' is also ignoring the fact that Floyd was largely dominant in the rematch.

Both of them rely on their athletic gifts quite a bit, but I see Pea utilizing a wider lexicon of defensive techniques more frequently-catching punches with gloves, using head slips when going inside, riding with the impact of a punch etc. Mayweather is better at using his shoulders to block, countering leads, upper body movement. Both of them sway a lot and rely on their athleticism than the defensive masters of the past. You might have a point with the speedsters, but who's the best boxer-type Floyd has ever faced? Nobody really exceptional for me there, certainly not on the level of the DLH PW beat, and arguably won against.

The reason I give Pea the edge in accuracy is because he was great not only placing punches to the head properly, but to the body as well, he sharpshot for the liver and and solar plexus surprisingly well even in the middle of combinations, surprising for a guy with his style.

It´s not simplyfied. It´s efficient. Everybody knows what I talk about without me needing to write many words.

Hatton was a more cultured Chavez, so we already saw this one play out.
