So he has a record of 31-4-2 in world title fights. To be clear some of those wins aren’t for lineage in any particular division. But does anyone ( excluding lineage ) have more title wins ?
The answer is no unless you count the world colored title. If you do count it then the answer might be Langford and Willis but I have not counted. HBT has it as Wills having 30 and Langford having 38. I'm gonna trust these numbers at the moment because I'm lazy.
I just viewed Alexis Arguello vs. Andy Ganigan for the What Fights Did You Watch Today scoring thread and CBS says this was Arguello’s 19th straight victory in a championship bout. Quite a record. (He didn’t make it to No. 20, alas, as he stepped up to challenge Aaron Pryor at 140 pounds unsuccessfully twice in his final two title bouts.)
That's such an impressive record right there. There just doesn't seem to be guys around now, in the lower weight s, that have that type of resilience, to keep going and fighting often. Man was a legend.
I agree. I started following his career around 1988-1989 by which time he was already like 55-0 or something
Good post it something people dont talk about now.The guy was a beast his title fight record is basically Joe Fraziers whole career.
