87 fights, 87 wins before he fought sweetpea. How good a fighter was Chavez? Was he ever considered the best in the world? Maybe the best of all time? Floyd Mayweather, in contrast, self proclaims to be the face of boxing. He says he "has to" put himself as the best of all time. Why does he? I like Floyd Mayweather, I think he's an outstanding boxer, but let's be serious; how would he fare against the likes of a prime Oscar at 140, or a prime Whitaker for that very same matter? I think in this era Floyd is undoubtedly the best boxer in the world. He's beaten Shane Mosley, Oscar De La Hoya, and now a strong Miguel Cotto. Three great fighters nonetheless but whether they were at their primes when he faced them is still questionable. I still think Floyd Mayweather would beat Manny Pacquiao at either 147 or 154, so you can tell I'm not trying to knock him. Will Floyd Mayweather be remembered as an all time great? Or someone who consistently generated high p.p.v sales?
Coming into the Whitaker fight, Chavez was the p4p king, while Whitaker was ranked number 2. Respect to these two who actually fought each other...Wish Pacweather would have follow their example.
Anybody with any COMMON SENSE, or any Boxing Knowledge, disregards Chavez's record. He was fighting guys 1-2 0-3 when he was CHAMPION 2-3 times a month. Julio Cesare Chavez was an overblown YORY BOY CAMPAS, they fought the exact same. Tough, durable guys who took 3 punches to land 1.
There is a million ways to argue this, but there are fighters at 140 n specially at 147 that if he would have fought surge time the division was hot that might off taken that 0, styles make fights. And another thing, seems like in todays boxing to become t the best and a great you must follow a strategy and not like the old days where you just whoop every one our most of your competition, gotta say that has to count for something when you wanna talk ATG
You clearly havent watched and dont know **** about Chavez, or Boxing all together, dip****. Anybody with COMMON SENSE will tell you that, ******.
Yeah, Chavez vs. Wittiker, ODLH vs. Tito, Leonard vs. Hagler, etc. etc. yet PBF is too much of a wuss to risk his 0.and I do blame PBF
It's still very difficult to know who to point the finger at. Was Floyd unreasonable for requesting random blood and urine testing? No. In this time he actually accepted a 50-50 split with Manny Pacquiao. But how much is Arum to blame? Or should Pacquiao now be blamed for not accepting a smaller purse than Floyd? It goes round in circles... Just a shame this fight will probably never happen.
Funny how a fighter who fights everyone JUST fought bums, but if he were to pick and choose hes a ducker
I read someone describe Julio's record as something like "He didn't have an amateur career, so he had his amateur fights in the pro's". How many fighters have 75 amateur fights? Is it a common number? I think I've seen guys with over a hundred. No disrespect to JCC, he was a hell of a fighter.
