Chavez is one of my favorite fighters. A pressure fighter with excellent defence and balance. His defence along with other subtle skills go un noticed because when you say Chavez you automatically think of his body attack and pressure style.
I love Chavez's defense about as much as I love Yutaka Ozaki covers. The guy rolled so well with shots and was so effective with his arms that he makes AA and Clottey look like cave men.
Great video man. The reason Chavez was so awesome is because he stayed on the inside and did not get hit while blasting at the other. I've always said it was like Chavez had extra eyes, an awareness of everything around him, and at such close quarters.
You don't have a career like Chavez without being exceptional in only one facet of boxing. Pure brawlers are eventually worn down ala Margarito. Chavez was anything but. He picked parried and slipped shots got inside and destroyed you. He could also box if need be.
Indeed Chavez' defense was underrated. The next time any of you guys watch the Chavez-Whitaker fight, watch it focusing on Chavez' defense. While most give Whitaker great accolades for his great defense (rightfully so) ......Chavez' defense in the Whitaker fight goes unnoticed because most stereotype him as an offensive destroyer. Offense, defense.....Chavez did both at a level very few fighters ever have. In my 30+ years of watching boxing, Chavez is the most complete fighter I've ever seen.
Rewatch rd 12 of the Taylor fight and notice he was actually outboxing him. He gave himself space and was connecting Taylor with some solid shots before dropping him.
Man, I love that tune! I'm gonna' copy it & loop it. Then I can play it whenever HBO broadcasts a fight, so I don't have to listen to their biased & inane commentary any more!
reminds me of when I was a little pinoy how my dad would make my favorite dish Pulutan every weekend. I can remember papas cooking was so good but when I turned 10 my papa and I road our bicycles for 4 hrs to the big city. It was my first time in the big city and the first time I had a slice of cheese. I couldn't beleib what I was tasting it was so good so I started putting cheese on the Pulutan and sold it in the local markets every weekend. Everyone in my providence loved it and Cheese Pulutan defended us from poverty.
:rofl Hey boomboom why don't you tutor your boys on boxing so they don't talk about food on a boxing forum
