Just a quick question. I haven't been following this guy..I've watched a few of his fights but really never paid much attention to him. But looking at his latest fight and him weighing in at 152 got me thinking..what is this guy's goal?

Looking at his record he has been more or less steadily moving up in weight since his pro career began. And lately he has been fighting in the 150 range. Does anyone know, or has anyone heard about where he intends to campaign at? Is he going to skip over the Welterweight Division? I know he is young, but should he not be settling into a division by now? Or is he content with fighting the quality of opposition he has been for a few more years before deciding?

You know what I dont know. The guy has been fighting on T.V and leeching off his Dad's legacy since he started.

For now thats seems to be enough for Team Chavez.

exactly, he's young too. don't be shocked that if he tallies 40-0 before he has big fights, he'll be a promoters masterpiece by the time he's in the big fights. He's improved a lot since i saw him at the Garden for Cotto-Malignaggi.

If had spoken that it wouldnt have sounded so negative, "leeching" sounds a bit harsh but its the only word I could think of.

Dont get me wrong Chavez Jr is coming along nicely, I think he is good fighter in his own right. But even some gold medalists dont get that kind of consistent exposure and crowds at this stage in their careers.

I believe he is now on the bubble. Time to see if he has what it takes a match with Gomez or Berto would be a key crossroads fight for all involved.

He'll be an ABC belt holder like Paulie, nothing more, nothing less.

Thanks for all the answers and opinions. Hopefully he will be sticking around 147, just because by the time he starts fighting the bigger fights guys like Mosley, Hoya, and others most likely will be on their way out, or retired already. Keeps the division fresh for quite a few years at least. However the Junior Middles are really hurting right now as to name recognition, everyone seems to be gravitating towards Welterweight or Middleweight.

It's nice to see someone so active though, even though he isn't currently advancing up the ladder competition-wise, but he still has lots of time for that.

The Welters & Jr. Welters are overflowing with talent right now. there will be many great fights in the near future for the Welterweight division. If Chavez has what it takes he can only add to it.
