Chavez isn't all that big of a puncher, but he is strong as ****.

I scored the main event for Chavez, 8-4 rounds, 116-111 points, giving Vera rounds 3, 6, 9, and 12, and factoring in the ridiculous point deduction against Vera in the 8th. Chavez's best round technically was the 1st, he worked his jab well, mixed in some hard rights, and had Vera backing up all round. After that though, most of the rounds ebbed and flowed, each fighter backing up the other. Vera seemed to me the generally busier fighter, using his jab and flurries of soft punches, while Chavez would wait his turn to land several of his inevitably much harder shots to win rounds. Chavez stole 2 or 3 rounds in this way, in particular the 5th round which he stole in the final 15 seconds. While Chavez was never moved by Vera's power, equally Vera stood up well to Chavez until finally getting hurt in the 11th. The 12th round was just Chavez giving us another reminder why he is so unlikable; clowning Vera like that was completely uncalled for, and hopefully it results in even further erosion of his fanbase (only ~7500 tickets sold tonight). So Chavez finally gets a legitimate win over Vera, congratulations to him. Maybe one day he will actually fight an opponent who is actually his same size! Vera can hold his head high, he turned in a brave effort tonight.

I started with Anthony Ogogo vs. Greg O'Neill @ 2:15pm EST.

Ten solid hours of boxing. :dead

...of course, none of are really hardcore. To be really hardcore would have necessitated catching the Servania vs. Munoz card in Manila this morning, then bridging the gap between it and the UK cards with the South African one (Hekkie Budler vs. Karluis Diaz & Johnny Muller vs. Wilbefore Shihepo) - for a maximum of fifteen hours.

In case anyone was interested but missed Diaz vs. Robles, since HBO didn't air it on the broadcast:
