Do you think Barker would have beaten Macklin, d?

I mean, Guzman doesn't cop stacks of flak for his pull-out against Arthur...so why is Barker held to a different standard? Was it just because the domestic match-up was so anticipated and felt like more of a letdown when it didn't happen?

I'd guess it's because of him pulling out with a back injury. There are some people who think, unless the fighter provides a signed, notarised doctor's certificate, they are faking. A lot of people, including Macklin, thought Darren just didn't want the fight. And Brits like to be hard on their fighters, as you already said.

I thought at the time that Macklin would make Barker very uncomfortable and rough him up. Seeing Darren against Sergio makes me think he could probably handle him. It's a 50-50 fight for me now.

Macklin is a former light-middle and he wasn't a big puncher there. At 160, he can crack a little and do some damage, but he cuts easily and can't help but eat straight shots through his guard. It's whether Macklin can do enough damage early on to stop Barker taking advantage when he tires. My feeling is he can't, but he'd win the fist three or four and then pick out enough in the remainder to take it by a round.

    :good

Now that they've both given a sampling of how they can do on the world stage, I see the Barker that lost to Martinez being very evenly matched indeed with the Macklin that "lost" to Sturm.

Is it too late for that to be made? Would it still be a hot ticket seller over there, or has the "soup burned"? (like with Gamboa-Lopez).

If Macklin gets Sergio next, I see him losing but without being disgraced. I think it'll be the best money either can get and they may find a way to make it happen.

Maybe I'm crazy, I think Gamboa-Juanma can still happen. It's lost the lustre it once had, but it's still a good competitive fight because of both men's flaws.

exactly my take on the fight! :good if macklin could stop taking straight punches a little better (like he did for first couple of rounds against sturm) i think he'd make it a much easier night but not sure he will

  10. The key in this fight for me is which of the two tires first.

Macklin has always come out of the blocks roaring and faded late, whereas Barker tends to fight at a measured pace throughout.

Barker might just be too smart for Macklin, if he lands the one-two regularly he can win comfortably on points. If he starts hooking though I think it could spell trouble for him.

:good i think if macklin can get the first 4 or 5 in the bag, and try and work the body as much as possible to try and take away from barker later to even things up, then he just needs to take a few more rounds, which he can do if he avoids the straight right

This would be a good fight. A chance for Chavez to prove he isn't as useless as most are making out.

I haven't anyway. Looking at seniors first 45 the only one I could imagine being out there might. Be his first world title vs Martinez. Most of his previous opposition make Matt Vandas record look like a world beaters.

Barker UD. Chavez will set a pace and make a late rally though.
