Avila is 1-5 and has fought as low as super flyweight.

Zarazua won his pro debut via knockout a couple of weeks ago, and is billed by Bob Sheridan as a huge puncher.

 

Round 1

Zarazua is ripping away with left hooks to the somewhat doughy body of the much shorter Avila, and blasting away with right hands to the head. Big power shots from Zarazua, keeping Avila on the ropes. Jabs to the mustache by Zarazua. Avila tries to circle left and push his own left jab out, but gets knocked back to the ropes by more left hooks to the body. Avila manages a looping overhand right during a lull in Zarazua's attack and lands but doesn't make the younger man budge. Uppercuts and chopping rights upstairs by Zarazua, moving Avila across the ring. Zarazua throws a 1-2 and gets his right intercepted by Avila's mitts, so he digs a left hook to the unprotected body. Avila dances back and tries to get himself in a rhythm walking on the outside. Avila tries to greet Zarazua on the way in with a counter but Zarazua has the longer faster arms and heavier hands.

Round 2

Zarazua jabs, grunting through his teeth. Hooks to the liver and clapping overhand rights by Zarazua. Combo, finished off with a piercing jab to the face that shakes Avila a little. Avila is trying to hover inside while bent forward and fish for body shots. Zarazua plugs away with straight combos and Avila is on the ropes but fighting back. Zarazua backs out and blocks shots, resetting his offense. Now Avila is coming forward, but not landing with anything while waving both arms out. Zarazua throws a combo and leans in, as Avila counters with an uppercut as hard as he can throw it (which isn't hard). Body shots by Zarazua. Arms extended straight down and wrecking-balled into the body of Avila, one or two straying south of the border. Avila is down on his knees, grimacing. The referee deems that the shot that hurt him was low. The replay show it was right on the belt.

Round 3

Hard body shots by Zarazua. Avila is strapped to the ropes but let off as Zarazua backs away. Avila comes forward and slices his arms out from the sides and misses as Zarazua ducks. Back to the body attack goes Zarazua. Avila must have swallowed whole concrete bricks for breakfast. Jabs and overhands rights upstairs by Zarazua, not as effective as his body shots. Avila covers up and shrinks back. Zarazua goes back to the body, whipping away with hard shots. Avila is trying to flick in some short uppercuts where he can but has very little room to work with as Zarazua props against him and folds his arms up to wing them into Avila's sides.

Round 4

Jabs by Zarazua, moving left. Avila tries to catch the jabs with his own left glove but they're still just passing right through. Hard left hook to the body by Zarazua. Uppercut and a straight combo by Avila, but he misses everything as Zarazua leans back. Avila is throwing lots of arm punches, and out-working Zarazua. Avila isn't landing much, but Zarazua isn't throwing back as he just leans away and tries to block. Zarazua backs Avila into a corner and gets whacked a few times, as Avila pushes uppercuts on high and then flicks out straight shots with his back to the ropes. Zarazua keeps hooking the body. Soft uppercuts by Avila. Right hand shovel to the body by Zarazua. Combo low and high by Zarazua.

Sheridan gave Avila the 4th, which I think is very generous.

 

Unanimous decision.
