I can only base my opinion on what I saw last night and that wasn't good. I would be worried for him in the ring with a motivated Duddy. Perhaps it was just a very bad night at the office, but he didn't look anything like a world class boxer on that evidence.
Going into the fight, Chavez carried a 40-0-1 record. In the pre fight, Chavez clamied how he wants world title fights etc. Troy Rowland was 34 years of age, and to his credit held some half decent wins, but nothing more. He was medicore at his best. I understand Chavez had no amature fights, so he is still learning as he goes along, but he is now a 40 fight veteran. I was expecting Chavez to dazzle, on argubaly the biggest event of the year. He done anything but..... From the start, he looked pour. His defence was extremly leaky, he was easy to hit throughout the fight, his punchers at times lacked snap, and for stages throughout the fight he didn't look interested, and it was just a weak and pour performance all in all. There is talk of fights with the likes of Kelly Pavlik next year, a fighter of Pavlik's caliber would hurt Chavez Jr, like virtually all the top 160 fighters would. He still has alot of maturing and learning to do, before he can even talk of title fights. It's pretty sad to think that there are fighters out there like Choi Tseveenpurev and David Lopez who I feel are better all round fighters than Chavez Jr, but both can't get a fight for the love of money, and can't get no exposure. But yet Chavez Jr can get all the chances in the world due to his second name. It's sad but true. I assume him and Ireland's John Duddy, will happen in the future. Duddy was a world class amature, and is tough and game. But I don't see nothing special in him, I always felt he was overrated. Him and Chavez would most likely sell alot of tickets and it most likely be a entertaining tear up. It's a pick em fight. But I don't see both ever being world class fighters.
chavez stunk up the joint so bad the crowd became quiet even when buffer announced pacquiao in the ring the crowd wasnt as loud as they normally are.
Chavez is awful. He's shamelessly taking advantage of his last name and that's pretty despicable. I don't buy the "no amateur experience" bull**** if he's on TV selling himself as a championship caliber fighter. Either fight some good fighters or stay the hell off the PPVs I spend my money on.
