I agree. Too much hate for this kid. He has been very protected. That true. But he is only 22y/o. He has a long way to go. And he already have 37 fights. He might or might not make it to be an ATG. But he is definetly making a smart career. He will be at his best between 25 and 29 years old. HE is getting experience.
Some people say he didn't fight amateur. But I remember seeing him in Youtube fightin an amateur exhibition fight. I think it was against Paez jr. I am not sure but I think they were like 12 y/o. So he was at least training very early.
I don't see the need to rush him. Look what happens to Vargas for going too fast. I just hope Chavez JR doesn't get tired before making it to top. Boxing life is a hard one. And sometimes kids want to do something easier

this kid is overprotected, his dad's name is behind him,i believe half of his fights are set-up and when he fights someone 3rd class level, then he gets a gift-or its allowed to overweight his oponent for 3/4 lbs...dont be surprise if in 3 yrs he's already 100-0 and still fighting PPV in Tijuana...BS
and dont listen to this freddy-walk,as long as you are mexican, you are good.

Matt Vanda is a journeyman...., and still Chavez Jr look horrible...

Hometown boy: Sebastien Demers did NOT lost a single round again Vanda, and Demers is not even close to be a top10 fighter, he is a local guys. Trust me, I see Demers-Vanda ringside.

And btw, Demers fought Vanda couple of month ago.

Yeah you want to talk about a padded record just look at Demers' 24-1 record...and he certainly didn't have a problem finishing the fight.

I don't have a problem with him being eased along but the weight thing is a bit much. He should boil down like everyone else or trian to come in lower. There's not too many excuses for that. Other then that I'm fine with him. I've never been too hard on him and I haven't missed one of his fights in about a year.

was there even a contracted weight for the vanda fight :huh :huh :huh

i mean, vargas did it in his fight with mayorga (changed it twice) , and oscar basically has his own weight

Contract weight or not he should train better. He was clearly out of shape in that last fight.

And as far as Oscar's concerned I can't say I like what he does but I'll let that slide because he has accomplished a lot and proven himself. Chavez hasn't earned special treatment. He was born into it.

i know, but alot of fighters do that....i mean alot
when coming up, most fighters dont make the exact weight....most lightweights fight at 138 , middleweights 162, welterweights 149 etc etc....i mean, it aint nothing new to the sport...:huh

Agreed on the training aspect of it.

2 or 3 fights ago, Chavez was badly out of shape, and admitted as much afterward after turning in a subpar performance.

The kid looks like he's got a good head on his shoulder, but Jesus.....the temptations of the world especially to a potential money making rising star like Chavez Jr.....Partying, booze, women.......

Thats the bad part about the situation that Jr. is in with the perks that Kirk talked about......
....a kid in that situation can easily lose focus. It happened to Camacho Jr.......all of a sudden he went from a solid prospect with great potential, to a fighter that had lost all focus.

I hear though that Chavez Jr. was satisfied with the decision, but was'nt at all happy with his performance.
That he was'nt happy is a good thing, because that should drive him to be better the next time.

Just a hunch here, but I have a feeling that Jr. is getting bored with fighting fighters that deep down he knows dont belong in the same ring with him.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I have a strong feeling he's going to be up for and shine when he's put up against a fighter where many will pick against him.
