How did you score this fight?

It's kind of like the opposite in some ways of Whitaker-Chavez. Although I felt that was a bad decision and Whitaker won 8-4, I don't think it was quite as bad as a lot of other bad decisions, because there were close rounds. Whitaker won his rounds by a wider margin than Chavez won his, but they weren't enough for 10-8.

In Chavez-LaPorte, I thought Chavez won his rounds by wider margins than LaPorte. There were close rounds in the fight (I think KFC Colonel Bob Sheridan was trying to imitate the judge in Leonard-Duran I by scoring over half the rounds even). While I gave Chavez his rounds by wider margins, I ended up giving the last 3 rounds to LaPorte, and had the fight even 114-114.

I had it 116-114 for Chavez. Had four even rounds, which is a bit of a cop out, but I think some of the rounds called for it.

    Had Chavez winning rounds 2,4,5,6,8.
    Had Laporte winning rounds 3,10,11.
    Had rounds 1,7,9 (9-9 round),12 even.

I think it's one of those fights where if you give Laporte the benefit of the doubt in all the close rounds you can have him edging it, or earning a draw. If you give all theclose rounds to Chavez, he could win somewhat comfortably, 8-4 or so. I wouldn't vehemently argue with anyone that has it in that ball park, even though it's a pretty wide ball park.

I have absolutely no idea what I had round for round, as I only saw it aired on TV and don't remember how I scored it then, but I had it 6-5-1 Chavez. As described, many close rounds, and one could very easily have seen a swing the other way in favor of Laporte. Laporte's last great effort, I think.

    I gave Chavez rounds 2, 4, 5-8
    I gave Laporte rounds 1, 3, 10-12.
I had round 9 even before the deduction, making it a 10-9 round for Laporte.

    114-114.

Oops, I forgot to give my score for that round. I had it 9-9.

Which means I had 4 even rounds... man, I'm worse than Bob Sheridan.

   I think Bob's favourite phrase was ". . . well, I think I scored that one just about even."

I take it some of you guys keep records of your scoring when you watch the old tapes? It's a habit I should cultivate.

I don't see this or the Lockridge fights as being close the way many do. I saw them as competitive, but if you score it pro style, the guy landing the clean, solid, effective shots was Chavez.

    Hahah, spot on.

Doc, I keep all my scorecards collected in a Word document. That way it's easy to refer to whenever someone mentions a fight.

Start now and you won't regret it :good
