Oscar was tall at 135, he was neither at his prime skill-wise or size-wise at this weight, however, whereas Chavez was at the very peak of his skills, and wouldn't allow the green Oscar to dictate the pace. At 140 the fight is a closer call, anything above and Oscar has a clear edge. At 135 Chavez would give him a beating. Height doesn't equal size neccessarily, and Oscar was neither at his physical peak nor his mental peak, and simply wasn't as impressive at 130-135 as he was at 140 and above. Chavez was an absolute beast at this weight, at the peak of his powers.

Oscar , Chavez was good but come on he got sliced up in the first fight , then beaten up in the second.

    Styles make fights.

Styles make fights, as well as abilities. Chavez had nowhere near the abilities in 1996, and especially at WW two years later, than he did at lightweight in the late 80s.

Chavez would always have problems with Oscar's style, AND TALENT.

Chavez never did anything notable at Welterweight it was by far his worst weightclass and he'd had over 100 fights when he fought a prime ODLH.

ODLH was more green at the lower weightclasses where as Chavez was in his destructive prime at Super Featherweight/Lightweight.

This would be a far different fight at Lightweight and much more competitive.

PS you can see Chavez sparring a young ODLH and dropping him in sparring.

Oscar's jab was something special. I think it gives Chavez problems at any weight. Chavez was a force of nature at 135 but Oscar's style will always be problematic for him imo. Oscar UD.

i think the corner would have pulled oscar out the fight at some point. the trainers would understand that oscar doesnt have the age and experience to take on punishment like chavez can dish out. chavez was a stand out elite, fighting at his peak. while oscar was a rising star, fighting the right opponents. oscar would hold his own, though. he just wouldnt be ready yet.

Delahoya’s jab was just too much for the outsized JCC. JC gets to him a few times no doubt but I see Oskee in a tough but fair UD WIN.

Oscar De La Hoya UD. The excuses about Chavez age are overblown. De La Hoya is a bad matchup for him
