I suggest the thread starter rewatch the fight and strictly focus on Chavez' right hand. That right hand was landing flush all night and its what caused the fracture in Taylor's orbital bone.

 

Wouldn't surprise me.

 

Taylor did alot of flurrying, which cosmetically looks cool but effectively does little damage.
Of note, Taylor also was bringing the mustard to the table, but Chavez as well used great waist movement and parrying of Taylors shots to minimize the effects.

Take a good look in rewatching the fight and you'll see so many taylor shots missing or just plain being parried off Chavez' gloves.

Turn the sound off while you're at it, HBO cheerleaded for Taylor that night you know?:nut

GTFO, Chavez beat the **** outta Taylor throughout the fight, not only the last round, when the bell rang to end the 11th Taylor nearly walked to the wrong corner!

Taylor landed plenty of shoe shiners but Chavez always delivered the more powerful blows. You'd notice it if you were actually paying attention to the fight and not just to HBO commentators sucking Taylor's dick all the time

Taylor was a finished man after Chavez dropped him, he was done, knocked out on his feet and didn't respond to the referee who asked him TWICE if he was ok, what was Steele supposed to do?

Oh but I guess americans are so accustomed to being favored by homecooking that if a referee doesn't show blatant bias towards their fighters that means he's been bribed! atsch

Because he wasn't a power puncher. Alot of those guys who have the super fast hands are guys who hardly put any pop into their punches. Meldrick Taylor and Gary Russel Jr. are two examples of guys who had fast hands already, but they looked much faster because they threw pitter patter punches, and never sat down on them.

Chavez could sit down on his punches all night long, because he knew Meldrick Taylor couldn't hurt him, and Chavez sure as hell wasn't afraid to get hit. Meldrick Taylor didn't possess the same power or chin Chavez did, so that's why. I do believe there are some things you can do to increase power, but you're never going to make a feather fisted guy into a power puncher, power is a gift you're born with. There is a reason guys like Tommy Hearns were devastating punchers despite being skinny as hell, because it's a gift you're born with, just like a granite chin is.

 

blame Lou Duva who was storming into the ring and made Meldrick take his eyes off the ref when the question ....are you Ok is asked and not answered forcing the ref to stop it.

then again I don't trust King and maybe the ref was in his pocket WE WILL NEVER KNOW.

 

Taylor didn't have the best D and Chavez threw every shot with power, and landed a big amount.
