He fought there one fight too long. His body always looked very unnatural to me at 47, dude was 5'9 and strong. He always struggled to make welter and sooner or later that'll catch up to you (remember Toney vs. Tiberi?). When Buddy dropped Simon, it wasn't because McGirt was a power puncher, nor was it because Simon couldn't take a punch, it was because he had nothing left after making weight, and was completely exhausted.

Chavez did better against Taylor. That`s just styles.

Anyway. Buddy was a good smart boxer with a snappy lefthook. He had a good Ring IQ. I think Julio cut the ring off and worked the body so well that McGirt would be worn down by the mid rounds and Buddy would have to dig deep to last the distance.

    Chavez by late stoppage.

I think it would be a good competitive fight which Chavez would take over in the late rounds.

I clearly think this fight is closer than many here. I think Chavez likely wins, but it won't be easy with a hint of controversy

    Chavez probably by knockout.

    Picture Louis v Walcott.

Interesting you mention Walcott. Buddy had a little Jersey Joe in his game.

If we're using a proper ****ogy, then it's McGirt losses a controversial decision that he likely should've won, while clowning Chavez. The proceeds to clown on him for most of the rematch and is winning before he clowns one too many times.

I'm just saying that the Louis fights showed he had a stylistic advantage that Jersey couldn't overcome. I feel this would be the same and no matter how close Buddy came, he'd never quote have the beating of Chavez.

Very interesting fight. First time Buddy fought Warren he lost. Warren was a relentless pressure fighter without a big punch.
2nd time Buddy took him to school and stopped him late.
Problem with Chavez is he is a relentless fighter like Warren but he had alot of skills to go along with that not to mention a harder punch.
Think Chavez gets to him late in a fight similar to Taylor 1 minus the controversy.

yes. if you watch it remastered you can clearly see whittaker not even landing his little jab.
